FINE ART GRAPHIC DESIGN COLLAGE WATERCOLOUR |
|
|
Naama Nothman was born in
Jerusalem. She studied graphic and fine art in Israel and in New
York at the School of Visual Arts and Delehenty Architecture Institute.
She opened a graphic studio in New York and later in Jerusalem. In 1981
she went to South Africa with her family, and there she had the
opportunity to further develop her fine art skills. Her works reflect the
wellspring of her broadly based talent, ranging in colour from delicate
and quiet to strong and rich; in texture from broad flat spaces to
corrugated boards; in subject matter from dreamlike symbols and images
from her Jewish background to matter-of-fact still life images of her
studio world. Many of her paintings are done in her unique collage
technique, although she uses many different styles and media. She also
specialises in graphic and commercial art.
Three of her paintings were purchased by the Guggenheim Museum in New York, and many others have been purchased by collectors around the world. She has held many exhibitions in South Africa and internationally, including Cleveland, Tokyo, and Miami. Her work has been universally acclaimed: "...We are pleased to have works of such beauty and interest in the holdings of our collection." The Guggenheim Museum "...This artist comes in so clearly with joy, clarity and decision." Japan Times "...The combination of techniques is balanced and well defined. Collage aspects are not hidden but are artfully included..." Mainichi Daily News " (A) vitality of spirit that singles out her work as being complex, different and full of surprises..." Robyn Cohen
