Dear Parents,

It's very early in the season, but this year's team is already looking very promising! Returning members from last year provide a nucleus of experience that is bound to proove invaluable, and the "new crop" of players comming on board looks unusually talented. All in all, we have a varsity team of hard working women who are setting some serious goals for the upcoming season.

The Junior Varsity team will again be quite large ... probably over thirty players ... and they also seem like a very excited group. They're bound to do well this year also. Coach Summerville will have her hands full with this energetic bunch of girls.

I'm writing to tell you about a special request I've received from the Bison Boosters. For those unfamiliar with this organisation, the Bison Boosters are a group of parents and other interested third parties who are deadicated to helping our school provide quality opportunities for our student athletes. Through a variety of projects, activities and events, Bison Boosters raise funds that provide for equipment or other items not readily supplied by the school district. In the past, coaches have freely made their needs known, and the group would then do their best to fulfill the need. In recent years, our tennis porgram's warm-ups have been fully funded by Bison Boosters, and last year the group purchsed the large Blue and Gold varsity tennis bags that we so proudly sported at our weekly meats. This beenfit will be expanded this year to include the JV team as well. Over $1,100 was raised for this purpose by selling Blue and Gold "Bison Booster" lapel pins for 50 each! These 2,200 pins were hand-made by members of the group during their monthly work sessions.

NOW THE REQUEST: Because of the increasing numbers of worthy school athletic causes, Bison Boosters have decided to prioritise requests on the basis of team representation at their monthly meetings and work sessions. I am therefore looking for a parent, or parents, who would like to represent the Girls' Tennis Team.

Bison Booster's meet on the first Monday of each month at the High School Cafeteria. According to the club's new bylaws, a parent who choses to represent a particular sport must be willing to make a one-year committment. If you have children who participate in more than one sport, you should understand that your representation can apply to only one porgram during your term. I will be able to attend all of the meetings except the first and last two, and definitely plan to do so. We will therefore be working as a team in support of our girls' tennis program. If you are not able to commit to a full year's service, but would like to help out, perhaps you'd consider filling in fro me at those meetings that I must miss because of conflicting committment involving matches in the Boys' Tennis Program.

Can you help me in this adventure? "The purpose is worthy, and the need is urgent." I must appologize for my procrastination as I share the bad news that the deadline for volunteer sign-up is August 25th. Bison Boosters would like to know who will be representing Girls' Tennis on or before that date. If you are willing to represent us, please call me at your earleast convenience. I can be reached any time during school hours at 234-5678. After school hours you are welcome to call me at home; 456-8901. If all else fails, my voice mail number is 456-0987.

Thank you very much for permitting your daughter to participate in the Girls' Tennis Program! See you at the matches!

Sincerely,

Diederich Toddson Varsity Coach

( )Bison Boosters wants each sport to be responsible for manning the concession stands
four times during teh year. When I learn the dates we've been assigned (probably during Boys
Basketball in the winter) I'll be writing again. Here's another opportunity for you to help out.
Please keep this one in mind. It's actually more fun than work; I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

( )The Girls' and Boys' Tennis Teams will sponsor a dance later this year as a fund-raiser
for our programs. Again, I don't know when, but when the date is set we will need parents for
chaperons, and players from both programs will be needed for decorations. This will be the fifth
year for this activity, which has proven to be a fun project for all involved.
