TAIGA

The Taiga biome is located in Northern regions like Canada and Northern Russia, and stretches across almost 20 million square kilometers.

(11% of the worlds land)

Obtained from http://mbgnet.mobot.org/sets/taiga/index.htm

The Taiga is known for its lack of diversity regarding Trophic levels.

§    Evergreen trees are the most common and abundant, (Spruce, hemlock, and fir)

and have wax-covered, thin needles.

§    Conifers, evergreen trees that in late winter or early

fall produce cones, classify most of the types of trees

in the Taiga

§    There are few broad leaf trees (those that lose their

leaves in the fall) such as birch, poplar, and aspen.

§    The Tamarack, an evergreen species, is one of the only evergreen species that loses its leaves for the fall.

§    Trees in the taiga are usually less than 30meters tall

The Taiga animals live through a cold, snowy environment.

Some animals migrate, others hibernate, while some adapt to the cold winters.

The Taiga also infested with insects during the summer.
