2. late 20th cent. North American musical group, consisting of (Irish-style, right to left) guitarist Tommy Byrnes, bassist Sean Cowhig, drummer Fraser Stowe, flautist Brad Hurley, and lyrical collaborator Philip Craig Chapman-Bell ( not here shown, a.k.a. the shadowy "fifth Razor") . Noted for a dangerous combination of ersatz Scholasticism and contemporary instrumentation, the group follows Ockham in maintaining that general ideas have no reality out of the mind, but are merely a product of abstraction. They have also been heard to mutter "it is vain to do with more what can be done with fewer."
