Nutshell has been playing together in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area for nearly ten years, in one form or another. We are sometimes called a traditional Celtic band, but we prefer to call ourselves a "Celtic roots band", as we use traditional music of Ireland, Scotland, and Cape Breton as a starting point for creating our own sound. Our repertoire also includes traditional American tunes and contemporary songs. Some of the instruments that we use, sitar and hammered dulcimer, for example, are not exactly "traditional Celtic instruments", yet they seem right at home in the living tradition of Celtic music. Nutshell's emphasis has always been on enjoying the music and breathing new life into it.
Nutshell members include Kay Brown playing hammered dulcimer and Celtic harp, John Lloyd playing guitars, Tom Voiles playing flute and sitar with Linda Wantuck providing lead vocals and playing the traditional bodhran drum. We all do some singing as well, lending rich vocal harmonies to many of our songs.
In July 1999, we released our latest recording, "Pieces", which
is available for $14.00 for CD and $10.00 for cassette (plus $2.00 shipping
and handling). Quantity discounts are available as well. To order, or if
