REMEMBERING MEADOWS I walked with you on the pathway to the scenic view, I walked with you on the gravel escalator to heaven in the late afternoon, I stood with you.When we arrived in the solitude of love, I stood in the sunlight of our smiles ,and thought, surely, this moment will last forever, surely this sky is the first sky that ever drank so fully the beauty of our eyes. I walked with you in the forest silence where animals hiding must have been frightened and still watched us closely from there hiding places,we walked in the fevers of youth though it didn't seem like fever then,and we drank from streams that passed over our feet lightly , sweetly, and swiftly. I walked with you in the twilight of the day, as the first pink strands of cloud began to sweep the horizon with that strange fish-scale luminous delight that often attends the sunsets of youth in love, and the scales fell from our vision, and the lameness left our legs and we jumped,we actually jumped, there in the lingering seaside sunset. I walked with you on the crisp winter frosted grass of April funerals, when the tears waited quietly nearby, politely, as the priest's song rang clear across the cemetery as he sang to us, and to the road where no cars seemed to stray I walked with you there not knowing what to say and what not to say and there was no longer any safety in silence. It seems like I have always walked with you, perhaps will always walk with you, no matter where in life or death we find ourselves, no matter what stormy seasour ships ride in, no matter how dark the darkness gets or how light the dawn shines in. At least behind my tears I believe thus will be,behind my fears I wait for you, and will wait as long as the stars will shine. At the last, I see dimly through the mirror, I see you coming up the lane, a child girl of six, it is eternal spring, my heart takes flight as we run across the flowered meadow on our way to happiness. Feast of Wishes Let's have a feast of wishes, wishes lost and wishes gained let's fill our cup with lovely wishes and drink until they're drained. We'll wander in the evening we'll wander on the heath, we'll sing a sone to the stars above and one to the earth beneath. Let's wish for every last desire in every human head and cast them into a blazing fire that burns with flames of dread. And fueled with fondest wishes the blazing fire flares and turns out feast to ashes and burns away our cares. From the ash a phoenix rises like a promise unto thee, his plumes are brightly colored his flight is pure and free. We'll wander in the evening we'll wander on the heath, we'll sing a sone to the stars above and one to the earth beneath.
