PSINet  (includes NYSERNet, Inc. and Pipeline New York)  - January 1988 - December 1996

PSINet Inc., established in 1990 from the core team of NYSERNet, Inc., was the first commercial Internet service provider.  NYSERNet, Inc. was one of the regional networks of the NSFnet.  As an early member of the core team, I held many positions; samples are listed below.

 

Director of Special Projects/Assistant to the President  July 1996 - December 1996)

§          Project managed a pan-European expansion of the PSINet network through a $100 million joint venture with The Chatterjee Group, an affiliate of Soros Fund Management.

§          Advised the President on strategic corporate and industry issues and positioning.

§          Drafted presentations for investors, industry analysts, and other integral speaking engagements.

 

General Manager, Pipeline - New York  February 1995 - June 1996

§          Managed acquisition of start-up consumer online service company by PSINet Inc.

§          Assumed full profit and loss responsibility for consumer Internet access subsidiary of PSINet.

§          Grew consumer subscriber base from 5,000 (February 1995) to more than 100,000 (June 1996).

§          Maximized value from purchase price of $10 million to $23 million over an 18-month period.

 

Acting Managing Director, PSINet-UK  January 1996 - April 1996

§          Integrated newly-acquired EUNet GB, Britain's largest ISP, redeployed as a PSINet subsidiary.

§          Successfully built new office, relocated selected staff, created new organizational hierarchy, deployed new national network.

§          Recruited and trained an in-country Managing Director.

§          Oversaw the integration of the Pipeline consumer Internet service into this newly-formed company.

 

Director of Telecommunications and MIS  October 1993 – January 1995

§          Directed department responsible for PSINet global network infrastructure and internal voice communications as well as all internal computing resources.

§          Managed the processes of evaluating, ordering and provisioning leased line and switched circuits throughout the PSINet network during period of exponential growth.

§          Evaluated and managed implementation of Oracle with Oracle Financials.

§          Created the first technical support department in any ISP aimed at customer support and service.

§          Configured network routers, DSU/CSU, UUCP, POP, NNTP, DNS, sendmail, SL/IP, PPP, etc.

§          Sr. Marketing Associate, NYSERNet, Inc.  January 1988 - December 1989

§          Developed marketing plan for new industry-standard TCP/IP network management protocol (SNMP).

§          Worked with conference staff from several organizations to execute a national conference on computer networking, "National Net'88" held in Washington, DC to gain support from Congress for what has become the Internet.
