Hello! I have cared for red ear sliders for 3 years. I had the opportunity to witness three of my females lay eggs. The unexpected motherhood of my green friends prompted me to do additional research concerning their mating behavior and egg laying process. I have consulted numerous academic texts and a bibliography can be found below. I am NOT a veterinarian so whatever information I provide is meant to be supplementary to whatever advice your turtle's doctor suggests. My girls have never mated while I have cared for them...so their pregnancies were a big surprise! However, I want fellow RES enthusiasts to know as much as possible about the reproduction process of these beautiful animals if the unexpected should occur.
