LHASA APSO
LHASA APSO PUPPIESLhasa Apso Puppies

The Lhasa Apso was developed in Tibet, where they were developed from a terrier type dog, and their main purpose was guarding the interior of the Tibetan temples.

Beginning in the seventh (7th) Century, the Lhasa Apso was bred to look like the lion, and the Lhasa Apso visually looked like the holy lion, which was the symbol of the boodist temples.  It was believed that they were the reincarnation of the pious lamas (their priests) who did not become Nirvana.  Once the Chinese began occupying Tibet, the Lhasa Apso has become extinct there.

The Lhasa Apso has kept some of its valued instincts for guarding, and this particular breed of dog does make very good protection for the home and family, and is very affectionate with its own family, but can be some what wary of strangers.  The Lhasa Apso has a high life expectancy of fifteen (15) years or more.

Their health is very good as they are not susceptible to many illnesses.

The Lhasa Apso is a most elegant looking dog with its long heavy coat that lays straight, and their coat color can be golden, honey, or sandy with black tips on the ears, tail, and beard.  Some other colors are grizzle, smoke, slate, parti colored, some black and white and brown.  Their tail is well feathered and carried up over the back in a screw type design.  Their face should be finished with whiskers and a beard.

Most Lhasa Apso's range in height from 9.5 inches to 11 inches, and their weight should be 11 pounds to 15 pounds.

The Lhasa Apso is not a dog for people who do not like a lot of hair, as their hair needs to be brushed everyday and when grooming is done, none of the hair is cut off.

They have very deep brown eyes that seem to tell a different secret, about each individual dog, each  time that they look at you.

Their lively, assertive nature makes them well appreciated in both the home as well as the show ring.
