It is a 3D chat environment where you are represented by an avatar. To get involved in Active Worlds, you need to go to <A HREF="http://www.activeworlds.com/" TARGET="_top" TITLE="http://www.activeworlds.com"><U>http://www.activeworlds.com</U></A> and download the special browser there. You will become what is called a "tourist" with limited communication abilities. You can still chat with those in the general area you are in, and visit (teleport) to other worlds to see the builds in each world. Most worlds in the list have a theme behind them which the builders in the worlds try to enhance by creating & building projects accordingly.</div> <bR> <div> How do you learn to build? There are schools in the world list which will teach you the basics of building with the objects available. They will give you examples of creative ways to build as well as net etiquette while on Active Worlds. What you can build is limited only by your own creative imagination! Not all worlds have the same objects available for building. You might also find many helpful builders who would love to give you assistance to learn to build in this universe.</div> <bR> <div> To become a fully active "citizen" you pay an annual free of $19.95US. This will give you added benefits such as being able to add your new found friends to your "contact list" to be able to "gram" them and/or "join" them. See something you want to come back to take a look at again? No problem as a citizen! Just add the location to your teleport list. There are many things you can do to become involved in the many activities Active Worlds has to offer. From contests, bingo, teaching, and more...but if you choose to be alone, that's your choice too. </div> <bR> <div> The site map to the left, will take you to the medieval themed worlds I am currently involved with in some capacity. My role in each of these worlds are very different. If I get involved in other worlds, I will update this site to include them as well. They are also listed in the same order I visited & became involved in. Check each link to see what I've been up to in each. I won't tell you everything about these worlds as each have their own websites for you peruse. I will include their site url on the related page.</div> <bR> <div> In closing, I would like to point out that Active Worlds is not just to build in a 3D chat evironment only. You can also find groups which have special interests to people. For instance, there are some classes available for learning to use Paint Shop Pro, how to use rendering programs, how to make avatars & objects, and many other things. Another example of activities available are the CY awards which cover many categories of talent. They also recognize the hard-working volunteers who make Active Worlds a place to enjoy & to relax in for all. Constantly finding ways to make things even better for us and the future to come.
