Néréides - the ice nymphs - synchronized skating team started nearly a decade ago. The first batch of synchronized skaters evolved in 1992. It's skating rink is locatd at Meyrin, Geneva, Switzerland. Our MissionThe Néréides team has ambitions to participate in international compettions, having already made a mark in European skating events in the year 2000. It equally aspires to enter the Olympics with a little bit of luck and hard work.
Our ProfileThe Néréides is a devoted team of synchronized ice skaters, having obtained a B level in the Swiss national competitions, and is the best team in the Swiss French speaking area (Romandie). The team has received many bronze medals during the Swiss national competitions in the senior category. The team practices skating 2-3 times a week during the winter period, which includes aerobic exercises, both indoors and outdoors. The synchronized skating training is actively pursued during the winter months, and the duration of each session is about 2 hours. Our young skaters are between 16 and 26 years of age and have enormous pleasure in evolving as a team. The open skating rink is located at Meyrin and the skaters are extremely dedicated, with practice sessions taking place in all kind of harsh weather (snow, rain, freezing temperatures). We hope to build a modest covered skating stadium at Meyrin by the year 2004. The Néréides synchronized skating expenses such as, costumes, skating shoes, and the cost of lessons is borne by the families of the skaters, which in itself is quite expensive. The travel to various places of competitions is in general accounted for by the Meyrin municipality and the club. At times, the members participate in the collect of funds via the sale of food or a lottery event. This year the club engaged a new coach, Mr. Alain-Daniel Hostache who is from Lyon, France. He is the principal coach for giving training in synchronized ice skating to our young team. The Swiss and the European community in general are beginning to appreciate the talents of the Néréides, and the sports events are covered in the local and national press. The club is comprised of the following members: President:
Mrs. Myriam Frey Treasurer: Mrs. Wendy Thiebault Skating coaches: President (Techniques) Mr. Jérôme
