CAREER SUMMARY
Joined the armed forces in December 1988 to become a radio technician. Served in forces for five years and decided to opt for an alternative career in computing. Enrolled at Lancaster University in October 1994 and obtained an honours degree in Computer Science. I am currently employed by a company that deals with embedded system software.
CAREER HISTORY
SEPTEMBER 1997 TO PRESENT: NORAL MICROLOGICS Company writes debugging tools for embedded software systems. My initial tasks involved writing small scale applications to enhance the softwares user interface. I was then required to develop a trace buffer for Motorlas BDM 5200 CPU. My current task is to convert all our software from Windows 3.11 to Windows 95 (using Microsofts Developer Studio 97). To achieve this I have obviously had to gain an understanding of the Windows 95 API and the new common controls. My employer appears to be pleased with my progress, and as such I have achieved a 21% pay raise within the first twelve months of my employment.
OCTOBER 1994 TO JULY 1997: LANCASTER UNIVERSITY Developed an assembler in C under the UNIX operating system. For my final year project I developed an application to design and test finite state machines (associated with formal languages). I designed the software using OMT. The application was developed to run under Windows 3.11 and was coded using Microsofts Visual C++ version 1.5.
DECEMBER 1988 TO JUNE 1993: ARMED FORCES Served as a radio / communications technician after completing my trade training. I was responsible for conducting technical inspections / maintenance on a variety of installations and equipment down to component level. Competent in the use of various test equipent. Achieved rank of Lance Corporal.
MAY 1986 TO MAY 1987: FYLDE COAST ITEC Served as a technician assistant. Covered many topics including computer programming, micro-computer theory, electronic test equipment, digital and analogue electronics, printed circuit board design, etc. Helped design an implement a simple micro-computer to access data downloaded from a geostationary satellite.
CAREER OBJECTIVES
My primary objective is to develop my C and C++ programming skills and my large scale project design skills. I am particularly interested in developing software for Windows 95 and would also like to become involved in developing software for Windows NT. A further interest is code development in assembly language. I find assembly language challenging and rewarding. I am currently in the process of developing a 32 bit graphics library (using the Watcom compiler).
HOBBIES AND INTERESTS Weight training, reading, swimming, guitar.
