Kingsland Millennium Green Trust
Kingsland is the epitome of the traditional English village. At the heart of the village, opposite the 15th century Angel Inn, lies the 13th century church of St. Michael and All Angels. The village is centred along an ancient drovers' road with burgesses on either side. In the middle of this street is a short road leading to the Church.
In front of the Church lies a meadow of some 1.4 acres. This had remained unused for some time, and despite local opposition, planning permission was granted for 13 "executive" houses to be erected on the field, with parking space for 34 cars.
This provoked a passionate local response. An open public meeting was held and there was overwhelming public support for buying the plot from the developers and creating a green heart to the village as a central point for events and relaxation. The Kingsland Millennium Green Trust was registered as a charity with the objectives of creating a Millennium Green for the village in perpetuity, to manage its development and maintenance, protect the historical features and allow access for all.
