The Emerald Society of Wisconsin was founded in May, 1990.
A social,
fraternal and cultural organization for members of the law enforcement or
criminal justice community who are of Irish descent or who have an interest in
fostering and furthering that heritage. It is part of a national network known
as
"National Conference of Law Enforcement
Emerald Societies"
The Emerald Society logo shows the State of Wisconsin surrounded by the
Claddagh, a symbol of honor and loyalty, the crossed gavel, sword, and key to
symbolize the criminal justice system. And last but not least, written in Irish
below are the words "duchas agus dearbhú le chéile" meaning
heritage and profession together.
Principal Activities: The Brendan Heart Fund of Wis. Children' s
Hospital is the principal charity. A fund-raiser for the Brendan Fund is held
on the Sunday prior to St. Patrick's Day, an afternoon of family entertainment.
St Patrick's Parade in Milwaukee /Wauwatosa; Irish Fest volunteers; we work in
cooperation with Irish Cultural and Heritage Centre of Wisconsin; Shamrock Club
and others to promote Irish projects.
Membership open to: Municipal, County, State and Federal law enforcement
officers and those associated with the law enforcement or criminal justice
community. Associate membership is available for those not involved in the
criminal justice system.
Dues: $25.00
Meetings: Frequency: 1st Monday of Jan, Mar, May, Sep, Nov. Time: 7:30p.m.
