Introduction of Chinese Meteorites

China is a country of having history five thousands years. Early in ancient time, Chinese people had observed and researched meteorites. 359 historical records of meteorite falling events from July 2,133 BC to the Fall 1905 can be found. The collection of precious stone is Chinese tridition, many people like collects mineral stone since ancient, but few of Chinese people collected the stone from sky - meteorite. More and more Chinese people have interest in meteorites after Jilin Chondrite cosmic rain falling.
The collection of the meteorites described in history is difficult because of impact and weathering reason. Meteorites are the rare and precious resource.
Following are introduction of some famous Chinese meteorites.

Jilin(Stony Meteorites from Jilin)

A big meteorite came from outer-space and exploded at the north suburbs of Jilin City,at 15:00(Beijing Time),on the 8th of Marth 1976,rumbling and flashing, throwing numberless pieces of it formed a super meteorite-shower, which covered an area up to 500 sq.km. The biggest meteorite weighs up to 1770kg. Some pieces sank into soil more than 6 meters deep, raising a mushroom dustcloud 50 meters high and causing the earth to quake 1.7 on the Richter scale.
Jilin meteorite came to earth after it experienced a lot of difficulties for 4600 million years.Formed 4600 million years ago,the mother body had been a member of the solar family. It was broken when crashing into the heavenly bodies about 8 million years ago and Jilin meteorite was born. The orbit of Jilin meteorite in ellipse ran across the earth's Orbit,so there was a chance for them to meet.
Jilin meteorite mainly consist of 18 kinds of chemical elements such as SiO2,FeO,MgO,Fe and FeS.
Jilin Meteorite is comprised of minerals such as the following:
  Transparent phase-
    Major minerals:olivine,orthokombic pyroxene,bronzite enstatite,etc.
Others:monoclinic pyroxene, plagioclase, whitlockite, a-cristobalite, orthoclase, zircon, quartz etc.
  Opaque phase-
    Major minerals:kamacite,taenite,and troilite.
    Others:Chromite,schreibersite,ilmenite etc.
    Secondary mineral:magnetite
Some kinds of amino acid in Jilin Meteorite are oxyproline, aminoacetic acid, alanine, serine, and amino isovaleric acid.
Jilin Meteorite brought many precious material objects and rich information for us to study the heavenly bodies' revolution, the origin of elements of life, space technology and other scientific subjects.
Each meteorite I collected with picture. with outstanding or impressing shape, and aesthetic value. Please ask for more information.

Juancheng (Stony Meteorites from Shandong)

These meteorites fell down on February 15, 1997. Known as "Heze" for the first year, they are formally named Juancheng H5 Chondrite now, after the county name in Heze Region, Shandong Province. The fusion crust is clear and black on most pieces, typically less than 1 mm thick. The meteorites have magnetism, with higher specific gravity than common rocks.

Nantan (Iron Meteorites from Guangxi)

"During summertime in May of Jiajing 11th year, stars fell from the northwest direction, five to six fold long, waving like snakes and dragons. They were as bright as lightning and disappeared in seconds". This is the record of the Nantan's fall in 1516. The Location is in Lihu and Yaozhai towns, Nandan County, Guangxi, China. 25 degrees 6’ N, 107 degree 42’E.The Nantan meteorites were distributed in an area of 27 - 28 Km long and 8 Km wide, overlying Permian limestone and surface soils. The occurrence of northwestern elongated zone concurs with the historical description of falling direction.Nantan meteorites have different shapes: spherical, triangle, flat-iron shaped, elliptical, semi-sheered, tongue-shaped, irregular, and so on. Fresh meteorite surfaces are black, and commonly characterized with angular or round melted pits. The ones deeply weathered are brown and lack of melted surface. The size of Nantan meteorites collected ranges from 10 grams to 2,000 kg. Total weight is estimated to be 9,500 kg. More than ten minerals have been found in the Nantan meteorites, dominantly kamacite and taenite. Secondary are plessite, scheribersite, triolite, graphite, spherlite, sideroferrite, dyslytite, cliftonite, and lawrencite. Course octohedrite. Kamacite lamina are 1 - 3.1 mm wide. Widmanstattern pattern is obvious in polished pieces. As the strong weathering in humid climate and thick plant cover conditions, most smaller pieces of the Nantan meteorites turn brown and lose the melted surface. The average Chemical composition in the Nantan meteorites are: Fe 92.35%, Ni 6.96%, belonging to IIICD type of iron meteorite based on the taxonomy of Wasson and others (1980). The following trace elements have been detected: C, Cu, Co, S, P, Cr, Ga, Ge, As, Sb, W, Re, Ir, Au, Ru, Pd, Os, Pr, and Mn. Ag, Cd.

Songyuan (Fuyu Meteorites)

According to the report of China's geography mine newspaper, In the afternoon of August,15,1993, The countryside of Songyuan city, Jilin privince fell suddenly meteorites rain, 4 meteorites were collected. The biggest one weighs 28kg, and the smallest one weighs 2.5kg. it can be seen in the site, when the biggest meteorite fell in the ground, inserted in the earth for 60cm, the radius of the meteorite pit is 20cm. It is estimated that the fallen area is about 10 square km, and some meteorite maybe in the field. The specility think about that this time meteorites falling is same type with the meteorites falling in Jilin city, 1976, They all belong to stone meteorite. These meteorites have many faces cubic shape, the faces of them have black crust as they falling in high temperature. These meteorites are collected in Fuyu district museum of Songyuan city.
TYPE: Stone
CLASSIFICATION: Olivine-hypersthene chondrite
PETROLOGIC TYPE: L6

Gebi (Iron Meteorites)

China claims what may be the third-largest iron meteorite in the world. It fell in the Gobi Desert in prehistoric times and has been known since the nineteenth century as the "silver camel" by the local kazakh people. In July 1965, the great iron was transported more than 300 miles from Chingho County to Urumshi, the capital of the Sinkiang Uighur Autonomous Region in northwest China. The Gobi meteorite's estimated weight is 33 tons, only a ton less than the Ahnighito meteorite.(Rocks from space by O.Richard Norton)

Ch'ing-yang

According to widely acknowledged saying, It is highly improbable that someone should have or be able to procure any material of the Ch'ing-yang meteorite shower of 1490. Though it is a documented shower but, No material has survived or is available from this historic fall hundreds of years ago.

About My Meteorites Collections Information

Dear friends:

My name is Bob Yew, I'm a Chinese meteorites collector and dealer. There are meteorites and tektites from China for sale in this web site. (Meteorites:Jilin,Juancheng[Heze],Nantan,Songyuan[Fuyu] / Tektites: from Zhanjiang).I have been collecting meteorites and other valuable things from China, accept order for meteorites from all of the world, and discuss with meteorite collector. I have collected one 10kg Jilin meteorite, I think it's the biggest Jilin meteorite among private collectors. The tenth biggest meteorite in the Jilin City Museum weighs 15.5kg!

If you have interest, contact me please! Welcome you browse my site and create a link to my web!

Sincerely Yours,

Bob Yew
