Virgin have done
a good job or re-employing many staff after this disaster, but
several people are still finding themselves out of work and
some have children to support.
On
the 11th of November 1999 Richard Bransons very own Internet Service
Provider (ISP) "Virgin Net" were to open a support call
centre in Trowbrige Wiltshire. A massive recruitment campaign was
taken up and over 150 people were successful in their applications
for employment with the company. Some members of staff were due to
start as early as the 1st of October.
On the 5th of
October however, Virgin Net announced that a decision had been
reached not to proceed with the opening of the call centre. This
decision has now left 150+ people either without jobs or begging for
their old jobs back. So much for the peoples company. As
compensation and an encore Virgin Net have offered a meager 2 weeks
pay for the trouble they have caused.
This story is to
be covered by HTV News and the Evening Post so far.
