Peach State Products

Achievers International began at Columbus High during the 1996-1997 school year. Presently it is an extra-curricula activity, recognized as enrichment. Involved students are permitted to participate in activities and meetings, which may take place during the school day and/or after school. AFLAC, recognizing the outstanding potential of this program, has become a partner in this enterprise. They have provided venture capital, as well as support in the way of expertise in the area of international business. Individuals within their organization share information in areas such as marketing, shipping, financial record-keeping, etc. Swift Textiles, Tuf-Tex, CB&T, Georgia Power, and others have also offered their support to this endeavor. Whenever this program is presented, enthusiasm is generated. This is a hands-on, constructive, real world educational experience and it is very exciting!

Columbus High, fortunately, has a number of exceptional resources to facilitate this project. Telecommunication is possible through the Georgia Statewide and Academic System (GSAMS), right here at Columbus High. In November, the first telecommunication took place as a part of the Georgia Partners for Excellence in Education Bus Tour. Columbus High Achievers International, whose company name is Peach State products, took part in a video conference linking schools across the state, the Department of Administrative Services in Atlanta, the Shenandoah Environment and Education Center, and various sites in Scotland. This event was featured in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer. In attendance were Guy Sims and several members of the School Board. Achievers International students conducted the program from Columbus High and did an outstanding job. Other forms of communication with our partner school-Hyndland Secondary in Glasgow, Scotland-included a telephone conference call, fax, email, as well as conventional "snail" mail.
