By consciousness I mean a human's relationship to the world; how (s)he percieves it in realtion to him/her-self. In order to understand our currant perception of the world we need to understand where we have come from, so that we may compare our currant situation to the past to get an idea of the progression we have gone through. Similar to looking at a line graph (for example) of the stock market, it's the general trend which gives you an idea of what is happening, rather than any of the individual points on the graph in isolation. There are a number of 'indicators' which I will use to show a societies relationship to the world; the art produced in that society, the size of the average family, the society's god(s) and whatever seems relevant. I am not sure where I got these ideas from, I think I have synthesised them by combining many people's ideas, but I really can't remember. I don't think that I have come up with anything new, I am sure that everything you are about to read isn't new and ground-breaking ideas.
