This plan is designed to assist in the planning stages of the venture KUDA KULTURE. This document may be circulated in the hopes of getting feedback and expressions of Interest.

KUDA KULTURE, is a venture at this stage still in the planning stages. If proven viable the venture will then be established and operated by Paul and Jenny Cook.
The business is named after the species we intend to breed, Hipocampus Kuda however if a different species is found to be superior this will change.

  An investment opportunity....
  Seahorses
Species Justification: In general seahorses have an aesthetic appeal which has led to their wide use as ornamental aquarium fish and dried curios (Seafood New Zealand 1998). The larger market for seahorses however is the traditional Chinese medicine and its derivatives (eg. Japanese and Korean traditional medicine)
Traditional Chinese medicine is recognised by the World Health Organisation as providing a viable health care option, and has a large global constituency. Treatments including seahorses are believed to benefit a range of conditions, including respiratory disorders such as asthma, sexual disfunctions such as impotence, and general lethargy and pain. The seahorse is also a valued traditional Jamu medicine in Indonesia and in the central Philippines folk medicine.
The demand for seahorses far exceeds demand for both dried and live seahorses. The increasing demand combined with the artisanal nature of the fishery and the paucity of other options for many seahorse collectors, means that the seahorse trade can be expected to persist even as seahorse numbers decline (http://www.seahorse.mcgill.ca/trade.htm).
