It was July. I think people have recently suggested it is going to be delayed though. Say August and hope, pray, make sacrifices, go on a fast, etc..

well it hasn't shown up on amazon or B&N or anywhere else. Looks like my summer reading is going to be confined to King Kelson's Bride and the next Harry Potter :(

Amazon.co.uk has SoS listed with a July 17 release date. I think the last communiqu from GRRM said that he hasn't handed the manuscript in for editing yet, so that is probably not accurate.

It's my guess it will come out in the fall. I hope I'm wrong in that, though. I am going through some serious withdrawl.

Rughead, One of the posters here, Ran (who is the man, by the way)runs a site, www.westeros.org. At that site, there is the So Spake Martin section (SSM). He regularly posts messages that he and other posters receive from GRRM. You can find responses to questions from the Legends bulletin board there as well.

The communiqu I mentioned above was from about a month ago. There has been a more recent message from a source at Meisha Merlin publishing that says they are waiting for him to finish SoS so that they can talk about the new limited illustated version of GoT, so it would seem that he has not completed the manuscript just yet, but is close.

Don't get me wrong, but I can't be mad about a later publishing date. It sucks because I want read SoS really bad (I mean really really really bad). But I also don't want the quality of the book to suffer because of time constraints.

It looks like Martin might have finished SoS! I got an E-mail from Meisha Merlin about the limited editions of aSoIaF and there was an interesting tidbit.

"Now that George is finished with the third volume for Bantam, he and I are working out the last minute details on the book. We are still set for an August/September publication date for 'A Game of Thrones'."
