Since his wife decides to skip the event, Betty will go with her dad this year. But when Bob Harris, a businessman and friend, is left without a ticket, Jim reluctantly promises to take him along to the game. Now he's in an awkward position: he has two tickets and promised two persons to take them along; Margaret forces him to keep his promises - now he's the one without the ticket. And the others, too, when he realizes that the tickets are in his shirt on its way to the dry cleaners ... 005 [1.05-54] Live My Own Life 006 [1.06-54] Grandpa Jim's Rejuvenation 007 [1.07-54] Bud's Encounter With The Law / Buds reines Gewissen Kathy uses the new washing machine for her astronaut-and-spaceship games. And into the washer she puts everything she gets her hands on: among those also Betty's skirt (which she wanted to put on for her 'Girls in Government Day') and even the mail. Among those now unreadable letters is one from the police who wants to see Bud. Jim, talking with a dismayed Bud, tries to figure out what the police wants from him and they come up that it could only be because Bud pilfered two old oil-drums from a dump. 008 [1.08-54] Thanksgiving Day / Die preisgekroente Dichterin Kathy won the first place in their class with her Thanksgiving poem. Jim thinks that a new Shakespeare is born and he as well as the family are quite proud of her - until he actually gets to hear the poem. Dissapointed, he runs down the poem which Kathy accidentally hears. 009 [1.09-54] Second Honeymoon / Flitterwochenende A weekend retreat, just he and his wife, looks like a perfect idea to Jim. First he doesn't want to pass this on to the kids when he learns that the kids have plans with them; and then when the kids take the news too easy Jim and Margaret are quite stunned. They leave, but soon they start thinking about their kids and after reaching the lodge they want to phone in - but no one answers the call ... 010 [1.10-54] Typical Father 011 [1.11-54] Margaret Goes Dancing / Weibliche Raffinesse When Margaret is told by Myrtle, a friend, she should enjoy life before it's too late, she agrees to take dancing lessons with her husband. Since Jim wouldn't like to go, she wants to use the 'female art of persuasion'. But this one backfires when Jim finds out first from Myrtle's husband. A fight between Margaret and Jim is the result ... 012 [1.12-54] The Christmas Story 013 [1.13-54] Sparrow At The Window / Spaetzchens Spatz Kathy has found a sparrow on the window sill and now the family takes care of the apparently injured bird. 014 [1.14-55] Boy's Week 015 [1.15-55] A Friend Of Old George's 016 [1.16-55] Bud, The Snob / Bud, der Snob In school the rumor makes the round that Bud is a snob. Although the actual problem is he can't talk to girls, as his father finds out. The family tries to help him but whenever he should talk to a girl he gets deadly nervous - only a Halloween mask gives him the self-conficence not to freak out. So, upon his wish, the family throws a costume party. But his dad has also something in mind ... 017 [1.17-55] The Promised Playhouse 018 [1.18-55] Jim, The Farmer / Vater zieht aufs Land Jim wants to give up his office job in order to move into the country to lead a quiet and less stressy life as a farmer. His wife doesn't think that he means it seriously but he has crossed many more lines to fulfill his dream than he ever did before. Soon the life at home turns more quiet than he expected and Jim starts to despair at home because no one from the office calls him, and his replacement and the secretary despair at the office because they don't want to phone and disturb him. 019 [1.19-55] Father Of The Year 020 [1.20-55] The Mink Coat / Sparmassnahmen Short on money, Jim summons a family meeting to explain the situation. Later, he gets a once-in-life chance to buy a heavily reduced mink coat for his wife. Unfortunately, this backfires since the mink now (in the public eye) represents a rich family - and the Andersons are far away from being rich. And living up to this mink coat isn't cheap either. 021 [1.21-55] The Matchmaker 022 [1.22-55] Bud, The Bridesmaid 023 [1.23-55] Proud Father 024 [1.24-55] Father Delivers The Papers / Vater, der Zeitungsjunge Mr. Collins, the man in charge, received several complaints about his paper boy Bud. He contacts Jim and this one promises that there won't be any more complaints from unsatisfied customers; Bud gets one last chance to keep his job. On the next day, Bud has an accident and then another mishap requires him to stay at home. Now Jim takes on Bud's route in order to keep his promise and safe Bud the job. 025 [1.25-55] No Partiality 026 [1.26-55] Close Decision / Samstaegliche Pflichten A lazy bud refuses to do his duties - like raking the leaves or learning a poem for Sunday's church - and his parents refuse to let him go playing baseball. But when his dad sees Bud's team losing (since he's one of the best the team really misses him), he nevertheless lets him go. =========================================================================== Season 2: Episodes 027 - 063 (37) (1955-1956) =========================================================================== Production ........................... Screen Gems, Inc. Robert G. Young & Eugene B. Rodney Production Cast: Robert Young ......................... Jim Anderson Jane Wyatt ........................... Kathy Anderson (Kitten) 027 [2.01-55] Art Of Salesmanship / Der Zauberlehrling Selling sauce-boats is the newest way for Bud to make money fast. And like many times before he soon wants to give up. But Jim sees in Bud the man who once will take over his business and since a businessman doesn't give up that fast he wants his son to go through it and sell all sauce-boats. Jim has to write a sketch for a show. 028 [2.02-55] Father's Private Life 029 [2.03-55] Lesson in Civics / Gute Buerger A new highway gets built. And for that the old community hall should be pulled down. That's something Jim wouldn't like to see since the hall is a historical monument and also memories from his youth are connected with this hall. Everyone from the family sees how much the hall means to Jim and they use different ways to inform the public or organize help. Kathy, who also wants to help, writes a letter to the mayor - with all the unfledged names Jim has called him in his anger. 030 [2.04-55] First Disillusionment 031 [2.05-55] Woman In The House 032 [2.06-55] New Girl At School 033 [2.07-55] Kathy Makes Magic / Kathys Zauberkasten Kathy has traded her skaters for a magician's box. Now practicing magic she also wants to turn things into something else. Soon things she's tried succeed, also her cat-turning-into-bird trick. Then, mad at her brother and his friend, she wishes they'd die. Soon Bud feels pretty bad and also Bud's friend ends up sick (both because of smoking cigars). Now Kathy blames herself and thinks Bud's really going to die ... 034 [2.08-55] Advantage To Betty / Unverdiente Lorbeeren Betty made it into the tennis team which is playing for the county championships. A reporter comes by to take a picture of the team but also one from the beauty Betty alone. And exactly this photo makes the round in all newspapers, making her the number one player. But the number one actually belongs to the team's captain Jula. Now not only the relationship between Betty and Jula, who play the doubles together, suffers but also Betty's play. 035 [2.09-55] The Big Test 036 [2.10-55] Father Is A Dope / Vater ist der Duemmste After watching a family show on TV, Jim thinks that his family tries to play exactly the same tricks to prevent him from going on a hunting trip with his neighbor. 037 [2.11-55] The Spirit Of Youth / Ewige Jugend After the kids start to think their parents are old, Jim and Margaret decide to go to their Alma Mater to attend Jim's reunion and mingle with the students. 038 [2.12-55] Bud, The Ladykiller / Der Herzensbrecher Dora has a crush on 'James jr.'. But a geek is the last thing Bud wants. Unfortunately, his parents like her and put him into an awkward position when they demand he should apologize after being rude to her. Since she doesn't accept the apology he has to ask her out to the upcoming dance. 039 [2.13-55] Margaret's Premonition 040 [2.14-55] Stage To Yuma 041 [2.15-55] Bad Influence 042 [2.16-55] Betty Hates Carter / Tochter zu verschenken For an upcoming ball, Jim has set up a date with Carter (a business friend's son) for Betty. She isn't very delighted that her dad has done that without asking and the only way to pay it back is to let him down. Although she tries really hard, mutual repulsion leads to mutual attraction for Betty and Carter ... 043 [2.17-56] Jim, The Tyrant / Vater ist ein Tyrann A bad day at the office results in a bad tempered Jim. And when no one at home pays any attention it gets even worse and he starts talking about the family lacking discipline and values - and it would need a tyrant to change this situation. On the next day after Kathy's the one who was neglected, bothered the other family members and, among others, crashed a window, she knows what she has to expect when she must face a tyrannic dad ... 044 [2.18-56] Betty's Brother / Immer in Bettys Schatten Kathy is quite proud to have a sister like Betty. But for Bud it's a tough life in senior high, to have such a well-known, ambitious and smart sister. And with the others teasing him all the time his behavior (missing self-confidence, starting fights, ...) starts to worry both his parents and the principal who don't have a clue what's going on. 045 [2.19-56] Betty Earns A Formal / Betty wird fluegge Since her wishes get costly, Jim refuses to buy a new dress for Betty - he instead wants her to earn the money herself. When she does so, angst raises that from now own his daughter won't need him any longer. And even more fear starts to bother Jim when Betty, on one hand, doesn't want the others to know where she's working, and on the other hand when her parents spot her uniform. 046 [2.20-56] The House Painter / Die menschliche Natur The house gets painted and the painter soon is the target of a bet: Betty, who does a survey on 'What's the Cause for our Daily Doings', gets into an discussion with her dad who thinks the answer is one's sense of responsibility and not, like results so far, egoism. To prove his point Jim suggests a bet: If the painter turns down Jim's offer to use cheap, bad quality paint (and in exchange earn some extra money) instead of good quality - Jim's right. Else he loses and must buy his wife (the needed) car ... 047 [2.21-56] Bud, The Wallflower 048 [2.22-56] Bus To Nowhere / Bus nach nirgendwo The last few days Betty has no fun, she's sullen and does nothing. No one gets through to her, not even her parents. Betty faces a personal crisis when she has to find answers, basically, to the meaning-of-life question. The only way out for her is to put Bud's story (which he has written as an assignment) into reality: Enter a bus and go as far as the money takes her ... 049 [2.23-56] Kathy, The Indian Giver / Ein guter Tausch Left alone by her siblings once again, and playing again with her just-says-'Mama' baby doll Kathy starts thinking about having a real baby. And the chances are good because her best friend Susi is so fed up with her baby sister that they both trade doll against baby. The Andersons are quite shocked when they find out and immediately return the baby. Kathy now gets mad because a lesson learned earlier on says: a trade is a trade and can't be canceled unless both parties agree. 050 [2.24-56] The Historical Andersons / Welch ein Held Bud should write an assignment on a great man from the War of Independence. Inspired by his dad he chooses Major Nathaniel Oliver Anderson, an ancestor of the Andersons. A story about the Major - thanks to Bud - soon makes the round and the citizens already celebrate the discovery of a war hero, but, unfortunately, Bud's enthusiasm was too early when he and Betty discover that he in fact was the opposite of a hero. 051 [2.25-56] The Grass Is Greener / Das Geheimnis des Erfolges Charly Bradley, a college pal of Jim's, is in town. Charly, now a tycoon, Jim and two others were known as the Four Musketeers back then. All of them made a fortune, except Jim who's just selling insurance polices. Upon realizing this (after a 'hint' by Kathy) he soon starts feeling bad, not having reached a high success in business. 052 [2.26-56] The Persistent Guest 053 [2.27-56] Family Reunion 054 [2.28-56] Family Dines Out / Hohe Ziele Betty found a new friend in Elouise Sanford, a girl from the higher society. To impress her, as well as not to lose her, she agrees that she and her parents are also attending the opening of the Country Club. First Jim is against it since he can hardly afford it, but then after he notices how much it'd mean to her, he agrees. Bud, meanwhile, has taken on a job as cook in a restaurant: he won the job because he told he would bring along customers - his parents and siblings. Unfortunately, his first day collides with the club's opening. 055 [2.29-56] Bud, The Boxer / Kampfgeist Eddie Jarvis, a bully, has it for Bud. When Bud chickens out on a fight, his father wants him to settle this fight in the boxing ring. Bud does - and loses the fight after only a short time. His father, however, encourages him to join the local boxing club. Soon he becomes a star, after he not only shows promising results but also beats club member Eddie. Now Bud wants to face the champion. While Jim thinks he made the right decision in forcing Bud to join, his mother as well as Betty are absolutely against Bud taking on boxing, let alone fighting in the ring. 056 [2.30-56] Betty, Girl Engineer / Maedchen unerwuenscht After a week of presentations, the students can sign up for a job they are interested in and want to learn more about to gain some practical work experience. Betty decides to go for engineering. Despite the fact that everyone's against it (because she's a girl), she wants to try it anyway - at least until the man she works with runs her down, too. 057 [2.31-56] The Martins And The Coys 058 [2.32-56] Dilemma For Margaret 059 [2.33-56] Hero Father / Vater ist der Groesste Duke Snider and his All-Star baseball team is touring the States again. Of course Bud and his friends would like to see him stop for a play in Springfield, but since Springfield's just a small dot on the map this seems impossible. Bud, nevertheless, has faith in his father's abilities to make the impossible come true ... 060 [2.34-56] Father, The Naturalist / Eine schlaflose Nacht At the next Indian Meeting, Kathy shall get a promotion to tribe princess. The only thing in her way is that she still needs five different herbs for her folder. So she begs her dad to come home and give her a ride into the woods in the evening since she has waited until the last minute. Although he has a lot do do, Jim agrees to help. After a short rest in the wood, Kathy leaves her folder with all her previously collected things behind. At home, after she notices, she's totally devastated. It's late and it's a long way - so there's no chance to get it back. But this bugs Jim ... Bud and Betty have a big fight when Betty asks him for a favor but he has anything else to do than to help his sister. 061 [2.35-56] The $10.000 Question 062 [2.36-56] Adopted Daughter 063 [2.37-56] Betty's Graduation / Der Anfang vom Ende For Kathy the end of Junior High approaches and she fears that this could be the beginning of the end. Jim tells her that this is definitely not the case and reminds her of Betty's very same feelings when she graduated from high school years ago and the nearer the great day came the more she got anxious about what's coming afterwards. [Note: Since Kathy (and Lauren Chapin) is about four years older (except the flashbacks) this actually seems to be ep.203, the revamped ep.063. His parents still know nothing about his situation since Georgia doesn't want it: On one hand she has a problem to accept that Bud's close with his mother - someone Georgia doesn't have since her mother's dead - and on the other hand with the fact that she and her dad live in a poor apartment whilst Bud with his parents live in the richer area. To prove that his relationship with his mother means no problem to them, Bud promises to go out with her on Friday - realizing too late that on that day the party for his mother's birthday takes place. 065 [3.02-56] Never The Twain 066 [3.03-56] Betty Goes To College / Bettys freier Wille To show her their Alma Mater, Jim and Margaret visit the State College with Betty. From the start, Betty rather likes to go to the Springfield Junior College with her friends instead of going to the State. And even more, after she realizes that her parents (in their enthusiasm) have already planned every step she'll make there and she'd only follow their footsteps instead of living her own life. 067 [3.04-56] Man About Town / Zu jung fuer ein Rendezvous To attract a girl who prefers older, more mature guys, Bud tries his best to adjust and gives himself out as a 19 year old. His parents step in and suggest a double date with them as the other pair. 068 [3.05-56] The Homing Pigeon / Wie im Taubenschlag Bud tests the ability of his pigeon Charlie if it can return after it was abandoned far away. The first test with a 100-miles distance succeeds, but the 500-miles then costs some fears when the weather doesn't play along and Charlie's overdue. And the family has exactly the same fears when Betty decides to move out and in with her best friend Gene. Reluctantly, her parents let her go not knowing if she will ever return. 069 [3.06-56] Spaghetti For Margaret / Ein teurer Freund Again Harper Emes lends money on his insurance. All persons around Jim keep asking him why he always gives money to this would-be author. And that the reason is just to improve her social position doesn't make it easier to accept. Not for Betty either whose eyes are opened by Bud's teacher (who also attends some courses) who fights against this doing-things-for-a- better-position and more prefers the free mind and own opinion way. 077 [3.14-56] The Good Prospect / Der Goldesel At the car shop of one of his friends Jim meets Aldus Lydum. Introduced, Aldus shows interest in an insurance and invites Jim and his wife over. Thinking that he's a rich man, Jim smells a big deal. It appears that they are actually just numbered after the airing order, so don't take them for granted.
