Directed by: Susan Rohrer Written by : Melissa Clark & Lesley Wolff 060 [3.16-96] Don't Strand So Close To Me / Uebersinnliche Kraefte After finding out about Liz' new beau Chad, Todd asks out Carrie to make her jealous. But Todd's in trouble after he gets lost on the hiking trip into the woods with Carrie in which he has talked himself into. He calls Liz for help who arrives with Chad. The only one leaving, though, is Chad after he has thrown out both, Liz and Todd, of his car. A TV commercial suggests that Jess has supernatural powers. And indeed it seems Jess gets everything right, the no-brainers, that is. Directed by: Stuart Taylor Written by : Peter Egan 061 [3.17-96] All Along The Water Tower / Der Buecherwurm While reading the novel Silos, some boy - a photographer, that is - shows up at the door and the following days Jess and this boy by pure chance live by the book - until the shocking truth comes out. By accident Liz and Enid discuss the 'Liz and the boys' topic on air: Now boys try to meet these requirements. The on-air discussion was a little setback for Todd but he still wants to try to win her back. But misunderstandings and Winston involvement make things harder than they actually are. Enid's infamous relatives show up in Sweet Valley for the 'Rollings Family Hoe-Down'. Directed by: Steve Markovitz Written by : Brad Battersby 062 [3.18-97] My Fair Shred / Stromausfall Lila and Jess aren't invited to the glamorous 'Patman Silver&Gold Ball' while Shred faces Military Academy. So a deal is found quickly: Shred gets an invitation for the girls while they help Shred to ajust to the life of the rich. Winston decided to do some promoting for the Moon Beach, then blames himself for the power outage following the turning on of his power-hungry letters outside the Moon Beach. Todd and Liz argue about the way a romantic weekend looks like. Directed by: Brad Battersby Written by : Jennifer Heftler & Lisa Page Kissig 063 [3.19-97] Sweet Valley Night Fever / Die Seventies-Party To prove she can handle things, Jess volunteers to organize the upcoming dance. What follows is typical Jess: the less she must do, the better - besides the fact that she doesn't know what is really needed for a dance. That starts with the theme - a '70s Disco Dance - which she 'steals' from Enid. Liz has other problems: For Todd 'dressing like in the 70s' means a Larry Bird basketball dress from the 70s. And Enid and Manny add another link in their chain of misunderstandings. Directed by: Susan Rohrer Written by : Peter Egan 064 [3.20-97] Crimes and Cappuccinos / Lila wird entfuehrt Outside the Moon Beach Lila is kidnapped. What should be the perfect plan - to blackmail her father - has only one little flaw: it's Lila they kidnapped. Jess doesn't even notice Lila's absence with her new best friend - Enid. With Enid now hanging out with Jess, Liz feels neglected. Winston hits it big when he 'finds' a cappuccino machine at the Moon Beach. It doesn't take long until the Moon Beach becomes an 'In' Coffee House and people are waiting in line to get a free place. Directed by: Susan Rohrer Written by : Troy Schmidt 065 [3.21-97] Search For Liz / Alles nur getraeumt Arguing about these unbelievable soaps, where a character fell into a coma by bumping into a door, Jess gets a dose of the real thing when exactly that happens: both her head and the door wanted to be in the same place at the same time. An unconscious Jess dreams about being a character in one of those daytime soaps: She finds herself accused of killing Delilah with a clueless detective, Rod, now on that case. An evil twin, Liz, and Jess' lover, Winslow, play foul games. And the other characters - a doc, a nurse, a dopey officer Manno and rocker Enid have their own soapy stories going on. Directed by: Bradley Battersby Written by : Peggy Nicoll & Barry Stringefellow 066 [3.22-97] Might As Well Jump / Winston, der Held Spring break is approaching and Principal Cooper wants no pranks played on him this time around. Unfortunately for him, the students don't know anything about it. Jess and Lila want to spend their time in Europe. However, one thing could spoil that: Jess scores an F on the final test in Social Studies and faces lessons during the time off. The basketball team and Todd, joined by Winston, want to do the traditional jump from the cliffs at Jackson's Bluff - and risk their lifes when the water level is unusual low. Renata Vargas 067 [4.01-97] Romance Wasn't Built in a Day / Das erste Mal The clan spends the last days of summer in a Brazilian resort, thanks to Enid who won the trip. A tired Cheryl is driven mad by a hyper-active Enid, Todd wants to sleep with Liz and Jess and Lila meet Renata Vargas, a potential trouble-maker for them who's about to transfer to Sweet Valley. Directed by: Steve Markowitz Written by : Paul A. Kaplan & Joanne Fink 068 [4.02-97] Loose Lips Sink Yachts / Geruechtekueche With Renata joining Jess and Lila's little clique, there are now three of them. And Jess and Renata soon fight over the same boy, new student and tough guy Devon Whitelaw. Rumors have it that it might have been Devon himself who set the family yacht on fire, with it killing his parents and inheriting the family money. All - except Liz - are somehow convinced that he indeed could have done it. Lila finds her new locker at geek corner. Directed by: Steve Markowitz Written by : Leslie Rieder 069 [4.03-97] Drag King / Mann gegen Mann Winston wants Renata to feel comfortable in Sweet Valley, so he tries everything from jungle to samba in the Moon Beach. After discovering that Devon is a pro drag-racer it's just a matter of time until he and Todd meet for a race. Jess tries a love potion to win Devon. Directed by: Stuart Taylor Written by : Joanne Fink & Paul A. Kaplan 070 [4.04-97] The Right to Bare Midriffs / Bauchfrei ist out A simple 'use the internet to get the information, instead of the phone' (which she was using) has dramatic results for Liz: she loses Todd - to the Internet. Todd's obsession with the Internet also effects Winston when Todd doesn't pay attention to a mishap during a picture scan. Result is: Winston's chat partner takes Todd as her partner prompting Liz to think he does more on the Internet than talking basketball. The school board wants to introduce a -gasp- mandatory dress code. This is something worth to fight and prevent, only Jess, Lila and Renata aren't the smartest when it comes to organizing and arguing. Directed by: Stuart Taylor Written by : Christopher Briggs & Peter Knight 071 [4.05-97] Lights, Camera, Factions / Hollywood ruft Winston's script got a 'go' from a student film festival and now he's about to shoot the movie. Since it's just a 'dumb student film' Jess isn't interested at all in participating - at least not until the names of the famous critics Friskel & Debert (who will critique the various projects) are mentioned: from that point Jess takes the movie into her own hands, forcing Winston to shoot something he never has intended to do. Seeing Liz living on her scheduler with her day planned out in detail bothers Devon and he makes her thinking about it by sending her into detention. Directed by: Steve Markowitz Written by : Christopher Briggs & Peter Knight 072 [4.06-97] A Kiss Is Just a Kiss (1) / Was ist schon ein Kuss? (1) Jess finds her Mr. Right in Devon but is dissapointed when Devon actually wants more from his Ms. Right - Liz. Todd finds himself in the Mr. Right position too, after he helped Renata passing the driving test. Only Liz seems to be confused over who is her Mr. Right. Directed by: Susan Rohrer Written by : Leslie Rieder 073 [4.07-97] The Kiss Heard Around the School (2) / Neues Spiel, neues Glueck An impertinent Jess told Renata about the kiss, and since Renata can't keep a secret neither soon the whole school knows about Devon kissing Liz. The last one to get hold of the news is Todd who then punches Devon. Liz still can't get her feelings under total control, and Todd also is now open to others. Cheryl gets Enid an interview with the possibility to become an ear model. Directed by: Stuart Taylor Written by : Paul A. Kaplan & Joanne Fink 074 [4.08-97] Lucky Streaks / Gluecksstraehnen Liz goes more or less openly with Devon, while Todd is with Renata. Both enjoy the change and the different way of their new partners. But the honeymoon is soon over for both when the new lifestyle starts bothering both Liz and Todd. The fact that Liz now is together with Devon is a blow right into Jess' face since that means Jess wasn't good enough for Devon. To get over it Cheryl advises her to do a complete make-over and outfit-change - which goes green, uh, awry. Superstitious Enid breaks a mirror. Directed by: Stuart Taylor Written by : Christopher Briggs & Peter Knight 075 [4.09-97] West Coast Story / Alte Feindschaften (1) The big game against Big Mesa is due once again. Although there are voices at Sweet Valley High and also at Big Mesa High to skip the pranks this time around, some aren't willing to stop it. For Sweet Valley the game may not be that easy as thought since Mesa's former star player Christian Gorman returns after a two-year stint in Delaware. Jess on the other hand is happy to hear about the return of Christian, her former beau. Soon the prank-less times are over when Mesa makes the first move. A revenge follows, for which subsequently another revenge follows up. It doesn't take long until the big guns are drawn and the situation escalates. Directed by: Steve Markowitz Written by : Peggy Nicoll & Barry Stringefellow 076 [4.10-97] West Coast Story, Part Deux / Alte Feindschaften (2) Just out of jail the boys want to settle this once for all in a big fight. Even Manny and Winston 'sign up' for this fight. With time and place already set, Todd - not at least thanks to Liz - and Christian start rethinking this whole thing and finally agree to peace talks. Devon, however, has different plans. Although Christian advises Jess to stop the romance she declines. When it's out that Jess dates a Big Mesa guy her popularity hits rock bottom and even Lila doesn't want to be seen with her. Jess then even thinks about getting transferred to Big Mesa. Directed by: Bradley Battersby Written by : Christopher Briggs & Peter Knight 077 [4.11-97] Rumble in the Valley / Alte Feindschaften (3) The fight will take place but this time the boys want to make it better - they try to keep it away from the girls so they won't spoil it again. As the fight approaches Winston and Manny get the jitters and want to back out. Devon tries to apologize to Liz for his behavior. Directed by: Steve Markowitz Written by : Joanne Fink & Paul A. Kaplan 078 [4.12-97] Devon Breaklaw / Freundschaft statt Liebe After the recent events Liz wants to call it quits with Devon but doesn't know how to tell him since she fears that he might go mad again. Renata wants to win back Todd and does a complete make-over. Directed by: Bradley Battersby Written by : Barry Stringefellow & Peggy Nicoll 079 [4.13-97] Skiing is Believing / Duell im Schnee The girls go on a ski trip into the mountains. For Liz it's the first time without Todd in a long time, and Manny is disappointed that Enid goes on their anniversary weekend. Jess is eager to win the ski race and with it beat Liz. When she - like the year before - fails she wants another - private - race which then puts both of the twins into danger. Directed by: David Winning Written by : Christopher Briggs & Peter Knight 080 [4.14-97] Single in Sweet Valley (1) / Single in Sweet Valley (1) Jess has a twin ... and it's not Liz: Betsy, a new student, attaches herself to Jess (keyword: big fan of Jess) and even founds a Jessica fan club. At first Jessica is blinded by this new persepctive. On a radio talk show a single boy causes the attention of the girls and Enid and Cheryl advise Liz to write this 'Single in Sweet Valley' a letter. Later, this boy chooses between those who have wrote him - and the date goes to: Liz. Directed by: Susan Rohrer Written by : Jordana Arkin 081 [4.15-97] Sailing Solution (2) / Der Party-Wettbewerb (2) The 'Single in Sweet Valley' Todd and Liz have found together again. They want to try it again but dark clouds appear when a sailing trip they wanted to to for years collides with the ceremony for the winner of the Junior Writing Awards - who happens to be Liz. The magazine Teen Girl awards a prize for the best party host and both Jess and Lila made it into the finals. The winner will be the one who hosts the best party. Since there are now two parties and only one winner trouble is guaranteed. Directed by: Stuart Taylor Written by : Paul A. Kaplan & Joanne Fink 082 [4.16-97] Down the Whitelaw / Devon in der Klemme (1) After Devon agreed to take treatment against his violent outbreaks and Liz agreed to stand by his side, he learns that the case about the death of his parents has been re-opened. He now not only finds himself as the prime suspect but also chased by reporters. This is something for Jess who sees another possibility to put herself into the spotlight. During the following nights Devon has nightmares about the happenings back on the yacht: the memories about that incident emerge - and he must realize that he indeed was reponsible for the death of his parents. [Note: This and the following episodes follow directly ep.078 'Devon Breaklaw'] Directed by: David Winning Written by : Peggy Nicoll & Barry Stringefellow 083 [4.17-97] Down the Whitelaw, Part Dos / Devon in der Klemme (2) In his dreams Devon found out that someone else was on board the yacht and wanted to kill them all - Sam. He wants to warn Liz, but Liz already went to see Sam to tell him the news about this 'someone else'. Too late she realizes that it was Sam who eventually takes her hostage in order to get Devon. Directed by: David Winning Written by : Barry Stringefellow & Peggy Nicoll 084 [4.18-97] Swing Time / Swing Time The past haunts Liz, actually Todd's past with Renata when she thinks he slept with Renata. Also she's a little frightened by Renata's continuing flirts with Todd. Jess thinks she has hit it big when a photographer wants to take pictures and doesn't listen to her friends who warn her that it could be dangerous. Directed by: David Winning Written by : Joanne Fink & Paul A. Kaplan 085 [4.19-97] Down Horoscope / Das Horoskop Enid's horoscope says that someone, namely a Scorpion, will fall for her. And, after finding out that this description matches Devon, she thinks he's out for her. Devon and Jess are together again but Jess doesn't want the word spread out - which bothers Devon. And when he shows up at a party with another girl this could mean - again - a quick end. Liz protects Todd with her judo skills, which now means endless teasing for Todd. He eventually enrolls for judo. Directed by: Stuart Taylor Written by : Christopher Briggs & Peter Knight 086 [4.20-97] A Simple Twist of Mates / Rendezvous zu viert At the library Todd kisses a girl who dresses like Liz, looks like Liz - but isn't Liz ... it was Jessica who somehow found her way into the library, too! Somehow embarrassed and also shocked they try to hide this 'experience' but on a Todd/Liz-Devon/Jess double date their partners find out. Liz fears that she could lose Todd to Jessica. When Lila isn't prepared for a test she copies Enid's work - too perfect. And Enid has to pay for it since during the year she had to struggle while Lila was actually quite good. Directed by: Steve Markowitz Written by : Paul A. Kaplan & Joanne Fink 087 [4.21-97] Ticket to Lie / Strafe muss sein When an ego-centric Jess uses Liz's ID card after driving too fast, it's Liz who must pay for the speeding ticket. Todd accidentally finds the questionnaire for an upcoming test - and with the coach knowing it's making the rounds - he and Winston break into the school to return it. Enid and Manny discover that they actually may be related, which cools down their relationship. Directed by: Stuart Taylor Written by : Peggy Nicoll & Barry Stringefellow 088 [4.22-97] Animal Rights and Wrongs / Happy End Double Vision Cosmetics are looking for twins for their new commercial and Jess persuades Liz to do this together. They are accepted right away. The fallback then, however, is that Liz finds out that Double Vision experiments with animals - something which she can't support; she backs out. Winston is tormented by the basketball team and Todd isn't of a big help for him. Instead he even turns his back on Winston when he wanted to go to the model plane fair, something he and Winston have done for years.
