Everyone had finally gone home, and Methos was left alone in the empty
apartment they had shared, and the memories. Just to dampen the heavy
silence, he picked a CD from the top of the stack. Without looking at the
title, he slipped it in player and started it. It was Queen, not exactly
what he was in the mood for, but he didn't feel like getting up again to
change it.

Just one year of love

Is better than a lifetime alone,

oh damn, he thought. Why that one? Alexa's favorite. They had not even had
a year together. But perhaps it was better than if they had never met.

One sentimental moment in your arms,

Is like a shooting star right through my heart. It's always a rainy day

He buried his head in the pillows on the bed. They still had her scent on
them. Unbidden, the tears came. "Yes, I'd give anything, even my

She died not knowing about his Immortality. He could not bring himself to
tell her. It was too painful watching her waste away while he knew that
when she was gone, he would still be here. Without her.

Was just one year of love really better? Would he have been better off
without ever knowing Alexa? No. Their time had been short, but at least
they had the year.

As the song faded, Methos sat in the darkness of the apartment, remembering
the past year. The trips, the sunsets, the nights on the beach, the
sunrises. And he cried for his lost love.

Notes: okay, so it's depressing, but he kept bugging me till I made the
attempt to write it. I'm sure it didn't help that alot of it came to me
while I was watch "Last Knight". And while we may not have thought much of
Alexa, Methos really did love her. I'm pretty sure of that.
