a bluffer's guide to brazil

Above and below: The sinister and not so disturbing propaganda posters which predominate Brazil.

Above: The movies' most original computers (old teletype machines which were bought for 25 quid each.)

Above: The cover page for Gilliam's Brazil script treatment.

Gilliam receives extra Brownie points for taking on Universal studios in order to get his vision on screen (They didn't like his final cut and demanded a happier ending. Gilliam refused and the film went on to win a host of awards.)

What does it remind me of?

The Third Man, Blade Runner, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, a host of Fritz Lang films such as Metropolis.

What's bad about it?

The lengthy running time tends to take its toll but Gilliam keeps every frame interesting so it scarcely matters.
