Collision at Carnforth
5 th February 1873

As a passenger train was travelling north of Carnforth Station it came into slight collision with some waggons which were running from the Iron Company's siding on the up line and which had not quite cleared the down line when the passenger came up. None of the vehicles left the rails, and none of the passengers complained of being injured. The accident was caused by the signalman crossing the mineral waggons across the main lines after the passenger train had been signalled to him, and also omitting to light his main signal lamp. He was dismissed the Company's service.
