RAILWAY COLLISION
(By Telegraph)

Last evening an alarming collision occurred on the Lancaster and Carlisle Railway, between Penrith and Shap.

The slow passenger train leaving Carlisle about 5 o'clock ran into a goods train travelling in the same direction.

Several waggons of the goods train were overturned, and the line was consequently blocked for several hours.

Several trains were detained. The train from the south due in Carlisle
about 9 o'clock did not reach that city till midnight, and the limited mail leaving Carlisle at 8.40 was detained for two hours at the scene of the collision.

The engine of the passenger train was not much injured, and, so far as be ascertained, no passengers were hurt. The goods guard was severely shaken.
