MP talks up Carnforth station's potential

Perfect link to the Lakes

CARNFORTH could become the major link between the North West and the Lake District.
Plans to revitalise the station and re-introduce mainline train stops at Carnforth have been given the backing of Morecambe and Lunesdale MP, Geraldine Smith.
She is writing to Railtrack to urge them to improve the station and make the platform a mainline one.
"With tourism bosses in the Lake District becoming increasingly worried about the level of traffic, Carnforth is the perfect place to get people on the trains" said Geraldine.
"It is very near to both a motorway and a mainline track with the Furness line as well"

If Virgin trains and Railtrack can be persuaded to get some of the mainline trains to stop at Carnforth, tourists arriving on the M6 motorway could park their cars in the town and get the train to the Lakes.
"It would only be a couple of minutes on the journey time and it would need a road at the back of Booths

linking to the motorway which could possibly be financed by private leisure and housing development on wasteland" - said Geraldine,"This really could be the making of Carnforth and would revitalise the shops and the town and would give much needed relief to the A6.
