Police called in to curb hooligans

Station youths blasted

YOUNG hooligans terrorising Carnforth's historic station have come under fire from the town's council.

Last week councillors met with officers from the British Transport Police to discuss the problems of youths on the station.

Over the last few months the problems have become gradually worse with youngsters using the station as a meeting point to drink and cause trouble.

Many of the town's residents are now frightened to go onto the station for fear of being attacked or verbally abused.

Officers from the transport police said that although problems are well know to local residents few incidents had been reported to them.

One possible reason for this is that incidents are reported to the local police at Lancaster and not then passed on to the transport police.

Councillors were told that all incidents on the station in the future should be reported to the transport police and not Lancaster.

Although an officer may not be able to make it to the station straight away all incidents will be logged.

If there is found to be a recurring problem the station can then be monitored at the appropriate times.
