Carnforth Railway Personnel
Extracts from the 1881 Census Jan-Apr

Richard James Smith

"....I was looking for information on my late great great grandfather who worked at Carnforth railways, well I've since done a lot more research.

Richard James Smith born in Scotforth in 1868/69 married a Lydia Doran in 1888 and worked as an engine cleaner (not sure if it was train engines but if it was then it was at Carnforth station) they lived at15 Pond Street in Carnforth and had a daughter Elizabeth (she's 1 years old on the 1891 census) Lydia died in 1892 and Richard went on to marry a (Margaret) Maggie Ann Craig in September 1893, they then had 3 more children, Isabella, Richard J, and a Robert R., in 1901 they lived at 5 Grosvenor Place which were as you say the railway house. By this time richard was an engine stoker, I know he worked on the line that goes under the via ducts at the River Lune. Richard retired from the railways after 48 years. how would i go about finding old staff personal records?
Tracy"
