Toggle-loop the Jib Sheets

This is a quick and easy method I use for attaching jib sheets to my headsails. The principle is a jamming toggle loop fed through the clew grommet. Only a short hank of braided dacron line is involved; it is cheap, easy, and I don't much mind getting flogged in the head with this type of fastener.

I need only one set of jib sheets with this arrangement, long enough for my largest genny. In a couple of years of using this method, even with sometimes violent flogging of the headsails, I have never had one come loose. Chafing has never been a problem, either; but if it did chafe, it is easily replaced.

Note: the "toggle loop" shown in these pix is somewhat longer than it needs to be, simply for illustation purposes. My working model is somewhat shorter, and just clears the point of the clew when cinched in place.

Here are three pictures to show the method.

The first shows the knotted toggle loop through the grommet.

The second shows the sheets bent onto the toggle loop.

The third shows the toggle loop drawn up tight in the grommet.
