The driver's seat is at the front of the vehicle on the left. The driver is equipped with three forward facing periscopes plus one periscope to the left. The central front periscope can be replaced with a passive night periscope, the Driver's Night Viewer, designation AN/VVS-2, developed and produced by the US company Optic Electronic Corporation. The AN/VVS-2 is one of a range of night viewers based on second generation image intensifiers. The viewer amplifies very low intensity light from moonlight, starlight and skyglow. The viewer consists of a head prism, an electronic power control and adapter unit and a biocular eyepiece. The optical system has unity magnification, and a 90 degree horizontal and 35 degree vertical field of view. The 25 millimeter second generation image intensifier incorporates automatic gain control and bright source protection. The image intensity gain is in excess of 25,000.
