George Hays


Occupation : Farmer

was an American Revolutionary War soldier of the Pennsylvania lines. Served as Private, Ensign, and Captain, between the years of 1777 and 1782. According to DAR information, George Hays, was a resident of Cumberland co., Pa, in 1776. Volunteering for service Oct. of that year. And served 2 months, as a Private in Captain Goudy's Pennsylvania Company. He marched to Amboy, New Jersey, was commissioned as an Ensign, in Nov. 1777, in Captain John Elliott's Company, and served in Captain Bole's Company. He served in Col. Dunlap's Pennsylvania Regiment, in 1780, under Col. Lyon, in 1782, and under Col. Hunter's Pennsylvania Regiment. He is believed to have been born in Maryland, but it is not know what line he decends from. His first born: John Hays, was born in Cumberland co., Pa, in 1781, the same year, as his marriage to his wife, Sarah McCamish. He is said to have moved to Butler co., Pa., by 1793.
