OUTREACH SECRETARIAT

 

History: Formed in the year 1993, Outreach Secretariat is reaching her 6th anniversary on the 1st of August, Previously, this Secretariat is known as the Da'wah unit as a part of the NUS Muslim Society.

Vision: A motivating dai’ who embodies the Prophetic characters.

Mission Statement: Outreach Secretariat aims to equip the Muslim individual with interpersonal skills, knowledge and principles of being a dai' and to create awareness on the importance of faith and ideology in shaping an individual's perspective on life.

 

Prime Movers:

Logistics: Md Faisal Md Razak (Science 2)

 

Focused Objectives:

a. To create awareness about Islam to non-Muslims.

b. To correct misconception about Islam.

c. To create an atmosphere where religion can be discussed openly.

d. To provide support for non-Malay speaking Muslims, non-Muslims and foreign Muslims undergraduate.

 

Activities:

Outreach Secretariat has divided her training programs into three phases. This is to facilitate planning, execution and evaluation of the activities. The philosophy of the phases are embodied in the mission statement. Each different phase is demarcated into training and application activity, so as to ensure a continual guided/supervised training and practical activities.

- Mobile Islamic Library: NUSMS Library Secretariat

- Selling of Islamic books: Darul Arqam Association

- Ramadhan Pamphlets Distribution: SAFF Perdaus

 

Phase 2:

Inter-Religious Society Gathering

- Muslim Society, Hindu Society & Varsity Christian Fellowship

 

Phase 3:

Lecture: Islam and Secularism

Lecturer: Halim Abdul Karim, Masters in Comparative Philosophy

 

End Note: The Secretariat is still young as compared to the Society itself. It is still undergoing changes in order to be of constant relevance to the student's population in NUS. However, the Secretariat is ensuring that the training and activities is in line with the vision and mission of NUSMS. She serves as a complement to the Human Enrichment Secretariat and support for the other secretariats in NUSMS and NUSMCS. May ALLAH s.w.t. bless and guide this Secretariat and her Prime movers in their efforts to reach to their fullest potential. INSYA-ALLAH.
