GENG JAHAT DEENERGISED

2nd October 1998

Soccer Court, Leonis Hill -

It was a twist of tale as the final was a repeat of the opening match of the tournament. ProGoals came into the game favourites to lift the prestigious PBM shield, while underdogs Geng Jahat was still wondering if they had really entered the final.

The match seemed destined to be a replay of the opening match as ProGoals went straight into the offensive at the blow of the whistle. Fatigue was creeping into Geng Jahat after their gruelling passage into the final as they

contained attack after attack. However, they almost took the lead as a result of a lapse of concentration of ProGoals defence. But Riaz squandered the chance away. This woke them up and they stepped up the tempo. Osman pulled cleared from the byline to score the opening goal.

From then on, Geng Jahat was deenergised. ProGoals was now firing with all cylinders. They managed 3 more goals as Osman collected his second hatrick of the tournament. ProGoals won 4-0. For Geng Jahat, the fairytale had just ended.

FAIRY TALE

2nd October 1998

Soccer Court, Leonis Hill -

The punters had it all wrong. The final day of the PBM 6-a-side was full of surprises. Underdogs Geng Jahat miraculously forced their way into the final against hot favorites ProGoals.

ProGoals cruised into the final with little resistance. Their quarter-final match was won by a walkover and their semi-final was merely a formality as they thrashed Achtung FC.

Geng Jahat on the other hand faced a gruelling path to the final. Their quarter-final was a highly physical match against Jurutera United  as Captain Fahmy had to be replaced at half-time with knee injury. But GJ, took the

lead when Riaz headed in a goal from an Epok-Epok throw-in by Fahmy. The match continued at a frantic pace as JU searched for the equaliser. Solid defending by Faizal Badut  & Co. ensured GJ's march into the semis.

GJ's semi-final match was a confrontation against the flamboyant Budak Pantai. After narrowly winning their quarter finals from penalties, BP was not going to take chances against GJ. They were on the offensive throughout the match, forcing GJ to defend. But GJ stood their ground and force the match into penalties. It was Riaz again who continued the GJ fairytale when he converted his spotkick

CAPTAIN VOWS RETURN

29th September 1998

Amphitheatre, Forum -

On the eve of the 2nd leg of the PBM Soccer Fiesta, Gang Jahat's Captain Fahmy vowed that his team will fight till the end. This came at a lunch time press conference at The Forum. He said that although the team were subdued 4-1 by ProGoals last week, they have not given up any hope.

"We letdown last week as our regular supply of energy boosters ran out. The makcik at NUS Canteen 1 failed to provide the team with our regular dosage of Epok-Epok

Energizer (EEE). To me, this must be the single factor that explains our lethargy during the game last week." Captain Fahmy was quoted saying.

According to canteen sources, this week's supply of EEE has all been sold out. Capt. Fahmy has denied being responsible for this shortage but added his team needs all the boosters they can get. Geng Jahat face tough matches this Wednesday as they confront KJC and Jurutera's United in their bid to reach the last eight. If the team plays with as much enthusiasm as their captain, they might just get there.

ALL TALK BALL TALK

It Has begun

Soccer Court, Leonis Hill -

The much anticipated PBM 6-a-side soccer fiesta started off with a blast last evening. The sweltering heat of the tropics did nothing to sap out the spirit of our academically represssed players.

The match of the day was none other than the opening match of the tournament which saw underdogs "Geng Jahat" taking on last seasons semi-finalist "Pro-Goals". The match was a perfect start to the tournament as "Pro-Goals" lived up to their name as they subdued their opponents to a 4-1 victory.

The game started off at a cautious pace with both teams assessing each other. However, once "Pro-Goals" drew first blood, there was no turning back as they dominated most of the match. At half-time, they were already 2-0 up.

Geng Jahat, comprising of mainly senior citizens, appeared lethargic in the 2nd half and pulled a man back to tightened their backline. Their long ball, counter-attack tactics paid off  as they pulled a goal back. This however wasn't enough as "Pro-Goals" rammed home another 2 goals to put the game beyond Geng Jahat.
