Carnforth is not an old town; its growth owes its beginnings to the nineteenth century Industrial Revolution which changed a small village into a medium sized town.

In the early 1800's Carnforth had a population of about two hundred people, most of whom were engaged in making a living from the land. Since then it has been an important railway town and a steel town, and today there are more than 5000 people living in the town.
