TOM'S TRIP TO

CUBA

In August 1999 I decided that I needed to take a break from things and get away for a while. This is where I ended up! I took some pictures and am displaying them here. I hope you enjoy!

This is a view of the strangely designed Soviet embassy building taken from my room at the Copacabana Hotel in Havana.

This is the pool area at the Copacabana, complete with swim-up bar. The hotel is located right on the ocean, and there is a large natural seawater pool area sectioned off (to the right) for those who wish to swim there.

Cuban flags can be seen flying prominently, as here on the side of the hotel. There are also signs and billboards everywhere proclaiming "Socialismo o Muerte" (Socialism or Death) and "Siempre en 26" (Always for the 26th), referring to the 26th of July Movement of 1953, the attack at Moncada.
