Corporal Izzy Schwartz

Corporal Izzy Schwartz was born in New York City on October 23, 1900. Standing only 5' 1", he was a quick boxer, always moving around the ring. He was knocked out only once, and only KO'ed his opponents a total of seven times in his 117 bout career. The high point of his professional boxing career came on December 16, 1927, when he won a close decision against Newsboy Brown in New York to claim the disputed flyweight championship.

He then moved up a weight-class to fight bantamweight champion Bushy Graham in Brooklyn on May 23, 1928. After losing a close decision to Graham, he lost four straight non-title flyweight decisions before finally giving up the disputed flyweight title on November 4, 1929. He fought only once more after that before retiring from boxing.
