PACEMAKER AND MY SPORTS; GOLF,TENNIS & SKIING.
My Second Birthday with Pacemaker at 78 on April 23rd,1999. I am a retired man aged fully 78 on August 21st this year,1999. I fell fainted 4 times during my golfing practice as well as during my rounds; first on March 1st, second on March 4th, third on March 23rd and fourth on April 14th, but I thought those faintings were caused by my brain anemia and went on playing tennis and golf, and in February, Alpine skiing with young ladies.
But on April 19th, while I was lecturing, again fainted almost and then found that my pulse won't go up from 50 beats per minute for a while staying in bed and I decide to have my heart checked at a clinic nearby. On previous day, I drove about 500km from Tokyo to stay overnight at a hotel for the lecture next day for 3 hours and the doctor there diagnosed me to be A-V Block.
I had to drive another 300km more to go back to my country where I was born in 1921 despite the diagnosis. On April 21st, I was hospitalized to a Red-Cross Hospital located in the city called Matsue and I was implanted with a pacemaker outside and on April 23rd, again inside; US made Pacesetter's Triology.

The name of doctor operated was Mr.Hiromi Suyama in charge of me with Mr. Noriaki Nakamura, both MD of the hospital, and the nurse in charge was Ms. Satoko Esumi. My wife and her sister and her husband; Tomoe, Miyako and Noboru attended me during my stay at the hospital for 10 days. Every thing went on very smooth to leave the hospital on April 30th. I stayed another 10 days at my sister's to leave there on May 12nd by car back to Tokyo, about 800km to cover and it took us 12 hours in the day.

I felt as if my new birthday has been initiated on the day of my operation of the pacemaker: US made Pacesetter's Triology with 2 leads into my right atrium and ventricle due to a complete AV-Block symdromes.

Now I recollect my 4 faintings during my golfing in past 3 months and those were with dreams very consoling but I do not clearly remember what they actually were. I feel like I experienced something alike to my real death and began not feeling fear of the death since. They seemed lasting only several seconds as I hear my friends around then told me but my doctor says the time length will increase gradually till my real death someday.
In 1991 when I had a regular medical check-up at my university in early spring, I had then noticed that I was advised to check more in detail on my heart, but I ingonred it because there were a number of athletes with the same advice. I thought it was one of the positive values intrinsic to the athlete's heart efficiently react to a higher loading than non-athletes' hearts of average people.
A little over two months has elapsed since my heart opertation now and I shall be given a special support from my community due to my situation of the first rank of physical hadicap, but I believe that within a month or so, I shall be able to play my favorite sports. In a forum of website as to golfing, I posted my case of pacemaker in order to find some golfers with pacemakers implanted, and I found a lawyer under the nickname of donB: Mr.Boberick Donald, from Pasadena, California, USA with whom I now exchnge mails regularly.

Now 4 months lapsed since my operation and I began plyaing tennis and golf after full 2 months to find nothing wrong with me and rather I feel easier to begin with to get to my aerobic status. But the incision of the operation still aches particularly when the humidity increases. Once 3-4 days of tennis for 1-2 sets seems appropriate to me now.
My Pacemaker as My Sudden Death Protection.
Still Works with JOA/JSGS/ICSSPE and Fairness in Life. I believe that I lived so far quite honestly to have no colleagues to whom I may owe something to be hated or disliked while I never forget some of them who were not pure and honest but deceptive to my good intentions in the past.
JOA stands for Japan Olympic Academy, a carrier of Olympic Ideal as a branch of IOA;International Olympic Academy whose campus has been located in Olympia, Greece. To our great regret, IOC homepage lacks IOA index and references perhaps self-expressing its recent degrading and corruption to be corrected sooner.
JSGS stands for Japan Society of Golf Science, which I am the founding president back in 1987. My intention was to purify Japan's societies, especially schools polluted with unfairness due to wrong concepts developed by wrong freemarketing economy and democracy.
ICSSPE/UNESCO stands for International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education for that I used to be the representing vice-president of Asia and Oceania, and now an honorary member.
My present status of Professor Emeritus(Tokyo Metropolitan University and Chukyo Womens University)keeps me honoured and it helps me to spin my life straight and fair as a gyrocompass everyday. Tell me what you feel to these aspects of mine, please.
