OBA's History

The Oceanic Boxing Association was formed in January 1998.

The initial concept was discussed by a meeting of delegates from the Oceania Region during the 1997 Pan Asian Boxing Association, Annual Meeting in Bangkok.

The general feeling was that the Oceania Region lacked a title exclusively for Oceania based boxers.There has never been any shortage of promoters staging Pacific & Oceania type titles, however these titles had no real credibility as there has never been any sanctioning body.

The concept was then run past the PABA who were in full agreement with the concept and willing to take the OBA on board as a Branch of the Pan Asian Boxing Association.

We have made it obvious that we are not in opposition to any organisation sanctioning Asia/PacificChampionships,the OBA title cannot be fought by any boxers outside of the Oceania region.

There are many promising boxers in the region and the OBA has given them the chance to engage in International competition, also it is an excellent vehicle for promoters in the region to stage a credible and prestigiuos title fight.

The next step up from winning the OBA title is to challenge for the PABA title giving our boxers a WBA rating. A far better path then continually fighting for the many bogus titles that have existed in the region for many years.

Our Goal is to have a Champion in every division and we are well under way to achieving this goal by the end of 1998.

Sec,WBA Ratings Comm, Member, OBA Snr. Vice President) , Mr. Gilberto J. Mendoza (WBA Exec. Director) Mr. Sitiveni Nuimataiwalu (President Fiji PBWA) ,Mr. Dean Bax (OBA Exec. Director & Legal Counsel), as well as our Country Representatives. Without the valuable assistance of all of the above the initial and continued success of the OBA would not be possible.
