September 3,99 - The Blue Jays hopes of a WildCard division title are looking much better after tonight's hard fought victory over the KC Royals. Roy Halladay was sent to the mound squaring off against Alvin Morman. The Royals took a reasonably early lead, in the 3rd inning with a Jed Hansen solo blast. The Jays took the lead in the 5th when Shawn Green blasted a two-run home run with Shannon Stewart on base. Shawn who has been killing Royals pitching this year, and was 3 for 3 with that home run. The Jays capped off a great night with two runs in the 9th when Carlos Delgado doubled home Green, and Mike Matheny singled home Delgado. Billy Koch came in the 9th with a 5-2 lead, but gave up three consecutive hits, but got a break when rookie sensation Carlos Beltran hit a rope to centrefield, but Vernon Wells was there, made the catch, and quickly threw to first base to get rookie Mendy Lopez who ran around second base like there were two outs, but in reality there was none. Mike Sweeney ended the game striking out while trying to check his swing. The Jays and Royals go at it again tomorrow night with Pat Hentgen (9-10) taking on Jeff Suppan (8-8). Game time is 8:05 PM ET 5:05 PM PT with CBC televising the game.
