for the degree of BSc. Media & Society at South Bank University, London,

The brief was to create either a single
or series of original work in a medium of your choice that challenges theoretical
concepts within the media.
'Surveillance'

My aim was to create 10 black and white images which has an illusion there
are stills from a surveillance camera. My camera and my eye acted
as the surveillance camera and I observed and recorded the movements of
a girl in Peckham, London.

My images challenge concepts surrounding the public and private space of
individuals.

My images highlight the fact that our society can not escape the gaze of
the CCTV camera and that our privacy is invaded because of them.
With an estimated 1.5 million surveillance cameras watching the 60 million
people in the United Kingdom we are under constant surveillance which we
have no control over.

There is no law in the United Kingdom that protects individual's privacy
and surveillance technology falls outside the law, there is no regulatory
body which monitors surveillance cameras. Anyone can set up CCTV
cameras and spy on people.

My images emphasizes that we are always public property and our private
space is almost non-existent in today's modern society.
