| BORN WITH A HEART DISEASE AND AGAINST ALL ODDS;BECAME A STRONG MARTIAL ARTIST AND TEACHER | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

When I was born,doctors detected a heart disease in me.At two months old,they discovered it was a ventricular septal defect.This worried my father who took me to the best cardiology center in Puerto Rico where they made me a catheterization that left a scar in my wright arm for the rest of my life.How did Martial Arts changed my life?I grew weak and no sport gave me the chance to be part of any team.Other kids bulled me in school & in my town because of this heart problem.One day came a Shaolin Tsu Kempo Sifu to my town to open a Dojo.I convinced my father of letting me try and thanks to him also,and Sifu Mariano Rivera,I began training.I competed in forms and won.I asked to let me soft sparring and they let me too.I then had the chance to prove myself and also won many times.The ones who fought me or lost in forms with me never knew of my problem.I obtained my Junior Black Belt in KAJUKEMBO from Sifu LUIS HERNANDEZ RAMOS,in AGUADILLA PUERTO RICO in 1975. That same year I competed in Black Belts fighting. I traveled to Hawaii in 1993&1994 to train at the Black Belt Society Seminar of Sijo Adriano Emperado.Here I showed the Masters present all the Kajukenbo traditional Katas.In 1997 I traveled to LA California to compete in Sensei Cecil Peoples March Madness & won there.Martial Arts gave me the boost I needed and I could travel,learn from great teachers and meet lots of Martial Artists.I take care of my heart,sure I do.I dont go to the limits but I was given the chance by my teachers to prove I could.I have a Black Belt 4th Degree in Chuan;Fa(ROPE SASH)& 5th Black in KENPO;a family and two sons that are Black Belts.A girl who is orange belt and a wife who backs me in this sport. This picture is about my visit to LA California to compete in the March Madness tournament sponsored by Sensei Cecil Peoples.I traveled from Puerto Rico to Los Angeles with a group of more than 30 competitors from the west coast Kenpo Team and his captain;Sensei Willie Hernandez(Cecil Peoples Black Belt).I was with the Kenpo Team but also represented my system(JU-KA-KUNG-KEMPO of P.R.Inc. It happened that Sensei Cecil & my teacher,Sifu Bill Owens were old friends who used to compete against each other for 1st & 2nd and they also met at this memorable event.I met a lot of beautiful Martial Artist there & trained with them also.To mention a few:Sifu Eric Lee,Sifu Al J.Dacascos; Sifu Earl White;Guru Roger Agbulos(LAMECO);Sensei Carlos Rodriguez from Miami Florida & Sensei Cecil Peoples & his Black Belts.I had the chance of helping Sensei Cecil in his Dojo & also helped with the Kenpo Team.My Sifu Bill Owens promoted me to 4th Degree Black Sash in Chuan'Fa in this year. | There are many pictures you keep in your album but this is a unique one.Here you see my Sifu at center and my brother Sifu Harrys in Black uniform at a tournament in Manati Puerto Rico years ago.
