Thalia Jovia Tritonides Khalida. Say that name within Empyrean society
and you'll receive very mixed opinion. Some people, the majority, will call
her a traitor, having divorced her husband, Darius, in order to become
Khalid Atar's wife and Queen. Others pity her, considering her a martyr for
giving up her family in order to fulfill the designation in the peace
treaty which called for an Empyrean bride for the God-King. Lastly, there
are those few--very, very few--souls who look at what she's doing with a
sense of hope. Can peace finally be achieved between such hated enemies?
Only time will tell.
The eldest of Cassius Valerian Tritonides-- a scion of Valerian Alexos Tritonides, the last male patriarch of the family--
and Helen Corina Jove's two children, Thalia lived in Civitas Dei with her brother Amadeo, and pursued a
career in art. Eventually she met and married a poor but ambitious man looking to move up
the ranks of nobility, Darius Ilarion Corinthus.
Love is sweet when it is fresh and new, but
Darius was prejudiced, as many Empyreans, towards the darkling taint. After several
miscarriages, Thalia became desperate for children. Finally, she conceived twins. When they
were born Darius was rudely awakened to the fact that he had two daughters: Riana who was fair and golden, and
Oriane who was dark of hair and wings.
He demanded that the darkling babe be banished and that the couple claim that they only had one
daughter, but Thalia refused and this caused the fresh new love between Darius and Thalia
to crumble into ash. After much argument, the young couple moved to Callisar's Eyrie where
Darius only visited, prefering to be in Civitas Dei managing the family business and furthering his
political pursuits. What love remained, after
Darius' adament refusal to admit Oriane into his heart, disintegrated over time.
Thalia raised her daughters and ran the household at
Callisar's Eyrie. After Darius declared that Oriane would go to Haven to live with
an uncle while Riana would move to Civitas Dei, Thalia stayed at Callisar's Eyrie with
her aging parents.
An artist, she lived a life removed from the political
manueverings inherent within noble houses. However, that changed once the
war between the Empyreans and the Varati began. She was taken prisoner by
the Varati when they took her home and was held within Khalid Atar's own
camp. From all accounts, she was treated very well and released back to her
family in Haven once the treaty was drawn up.
However, the happy reunion with her loved ones did not last long and,
much to the heartbreak of her family, she had her marriage to Darius
dissolved. She is now the Queen-Maharani of the Varati, her wedding and
coronation having taken place at Ushas-Gah within Masada.
Her very presence among the Varati has brought strife among the People of Fire. Civil discord turned into rebellion with clans and Atarvani seeking to
overthrow Khalid Atar. For a short time, it was rumored that the clans
had succeeded and that the immortal God-King was indeed dead. However,
he rose like the Phoenix from the dead only to bring more turmoil to an
already troubled people. Rumors immediately following Khalid Atar's
return to life stated that Thalia had been de-frocked as Queen-Maharani --
rumors supported by her removal from Haven and return to Callisar's Eyrie.
After several months, Thalia returned to Haven even as Khalid departed for
Masada.
Gentle and patient, she is fair to all and holds many of the liberal views
held by members of her House. Yet, in the turbulence that has rocked the
Varati people in the past year, a rock-like resolve has taken ahold of Thalia,
bringing her closer to her Clan. A bridge between two ancient and seemingly
implacable enemies, it will be interesting to see how her
temperment will serve her and whether or not she can become accepted among
both the Varati and the Empyreans.
As a Feature Character on Aether, Thalia is the
focus and cause of various stories and plots which bloom from time to time. One such plot
