The Council of Immortals

After the Walker of the Storm had fallen before the power of the Lady of order, and as the armies of Halash battled across Karnar, conquering what would become the ascan empire, the Ancient Ones contemplated the world. After the disaster that their battles (for the death of Asckura) brought about, they thought that it would be better to create a group of powerful beings, destined to be their most powerful servants, servants that would be the keepers of creation, so that the Ancient Ones would not have to interfere directly ( a short lived purpose, since Ascan came to the earth a while later to guide the would-be ascans, and later Acron appeared before Hamid, and turned all Athesh in his favor).

The council of immortals are meant as moderators, and as means to preserve an equilibrium between forces. The Ancient Ones and minor forces hardly ever speak to the council, but all the interests of the numerous divine forces are represented in its members, since only the Ancient Ones can bestow immortality and induct creatures into the council. Needless to say, the Ancient Ones select council members very carefully.

These Immortals are tied to their plane or faced with certain restrictions, so that they are Immortal ONLY within those restrictions or while on their home plane. A perfect example of this is the fact that, during the great cataclysm, Arkus the Immortal keeper of the earth was easily slain once he was taken away from his plane.

Every new Immortal of the council recieves a special gift from the Ancient Ones; an incredibly powerful weapon, which grants them control over their plane and acts as a symbol of their authority and power.

Even though a description of the old council is given in ascan scriptures, many council members have died since then, and been replaced with others. The council presented here is the current one, the members are presented along with a brief description, his supposed duties and his current plans.

Ordwyn, The Keeper of the Earth

After sacrificing his life to save all existence from Rao during the great cataclysm, Ordwyn proved to be no longer able to be the Immortal lord of Eshnor, the hell of fire. But considering that Arkus was now dead, and that Ordwyn had certainly proved himself worthy in the Ancient Ones' eyes, the great ones resurrected him and gave him a new task; to monitor and safekeep Raokrá.

Appearance: Ordwyn now looks like a strikingly handsome young man, dressed in a robe, mainly with earth tones, he has waist-long, nearly luminiscent red hair, and his eyes shine in a white light.

Duties: The Keeper of the Earth is not allowed to directly interfere in the doings of the sentient races unless a great need arises (nothing short of complete anhilation of life or the coming of Rao), the keeper of the earth is the most restricted in this sense. His main duty is to observe and record every important event in Raokrá, taking special care of the Diamond of Order. He is also responsible for keeping greedy immortals from taking over Raokrá. To achieve all this, former keepers of the earth used agents to aid him or do his bidding ( i.e. Arkus sought the help of the Lords of Soul and Steel)

Current plans: Ordwyn is a bit confused, still getting used to his new duties (it is certainly nothing like being the Lord of Eshnor), especially having to fend off Emanon's growing influence over the land. At the moment, his first priority is to locate the Scepter of the Earth, which was lost during the great cataclysm. He is also worried about the powerful creature residing in Karnar (who blocks his ever watchful eye), and the mysterious Master of Shadows.

Immortal Weapon: The Scepter of the Earth, which is currently lost. But even without it, Ordwyn is a very powerful being, not only possessing new powers, but mantaining some of his former powers.

Emanon, The Death Bringer

After Ordwyn abandoned Eshnor, the Barons (demon lords) held a fierce war, all coveting their Immortal master's place, but unfortunately for them, a new lord appeared among them. The new comer was Emanon, the immortal of destruction, and now self appointed ruler of Eshnor, not being tied to any plane (he can survive whereever there is bloodshed, something that abounds in Eshnor), he was easily able to force the Barons into obedience.

Appearance: Emanon is a monstruosity, his head and torso look human, but are covered in large, horrible scars. His left arm is a black poisonous snake, and his right one is the arm of a demon, always grasping the Glaive of spirits. His lower body is that of a lion, but covered in black dirty fur.

Duties: The Death Bringer was originally created as an equilibrating factor by Acron, since Emanon hates all living things with a passion. His duties consist mostly of creating unnecesary mayhem wherever he goes, and being a thorn on the side of all other immortals.

Current plans: Emanon currently wishes to increase his influence over Raokrá by sending his new minions to hunt for the Scepter of the Earth, knowing that it could allow him to raze the world without Ordwyn's bothersome interferance.

Immortal Weapon: The Glaive of Spirits, filled with tremendous destructive power

Rhyger, The Lord of Darkness

Keeping himself outside of Ordwyn and Emanon's foolish conflagration, Rhyger, the powerful lord of Darkness, watches and waits from his nightmarish castle in Gerthal for the perfect moment to take advantage of any of the two contendant's weaknesses.

Appearance: Rhyger in his true form looks like a cloud of mist and smoke swirling inside a humanoid shape defined by an invisible barrier, his only features a mouth filled with sharp fangs and a pair of red glowing eyes. He can take the form of any nightmare that has ever been dreamed.

Duties: The Lord of darkness is responsible for recieving the souls to Gerthal and torturing them, the living may also access Gerthal in their nightmares, and he takes care of that as well, sometimes killing mortals in their sleep.

Current plans: Rhyger, as an immortal created by Kindramar, is bound to the forces of death, it nourishes him and increases his power, but he is only able to take the few mortals who die in their sleep. And that's why Raokrá would be an excellent source of neverending power, he expects Emanon and Ordwyn to diminish each other, and then he will crush them both, and take everything for himself. He is currently insinuating agents into Raokrá through the realm of dreams

Immortal Weapon: The Goblet of Dreams, which allows Rhyger to observe every sentient beings' dreams.

Du Mont, Guardian of Order

After dying in the hands of the Master of Shadows, Fernando Du Mont, High knight of the Templar order, was reincarnated by Ascan to act as the Guardian of Order.

Appearance: Very much as he did in life, but now in a suit of white armor, forever surrounded by a white aura; He also has large, white feathered wings attached to his back.

Duties: The guardian of order has a vital duty; to upkeep the plane of order, as not to allow the chaos that the plane imprisons to escape, and also the constant attack by the creatures of chaos that may try to destroy the Order membrane (the part of the plane of order that contains the plane of chaos).

Current plans: He is currently searching all over his realm for the black pearl, knowing that Arkus claimed to have sent it to the plane of order, should Du Mont find it, he will hide it away from anyone who would try to use it. Du Mont is also trying to help Ordwyn (ironic, isn't it?) in everything he can.

Immortal Weapon: The bastard sword "Light Bringer"

Gyragar, The Messenger

When Mezra, the former messenger, was defeated and killed by the Lords of Soul and Steel, the Ancient Ones appointed a new one almost inmediately. This new messenger, Gyragar, used to be one of the lost spirits of Exnim (something like Limbo)

Appearance: Gyragar appears as a thin and somewhat short human with no facial features (he communicates telephatically), he wears nothing but rags.

Duties: He is a messenger, pure and simple, he takes messages from the Ancient Ones to the council, from an immortal to another, and rarely, from the council to mortals.

Current plans: Unlike his predecessor, Gyragar has no will or rationality, he only does as he is told. He can't be bribed or fooled.

Immortal Weapon: The very body he has is his gift, since Gyragar is almost indestructible.

Akashi, The chronicler

The very first immortal of the council, not even the ascans knew about his existence, and many members of the council have doubts about it. He is a complete enigma to all but the Ancient Ones (it is not clear whether the minor forces know about him or not)

Appearance: It is said that Akashi looks like a humanoid form composed purely of light

Duties: Akashi ih the great historian of creation, he catalogs and registers all events in the sphere.

Current plans: Unknown, but considering all the knowledge at his disposal, who knows what he might want, and be capable of. It is rumored among some council members that he keeps the internal conflicts of the council from escalating any further, but who knows?

Immortal Weapon: Unknown.

Deihn, The Retriever of souls

Another relatively new immortal, Deihn was created by Kindramar when Egnok met his doom while trying to destroy Rao's avatar in the great cataclysm.

Appearance: Deihn looks like an extremely pale human, his lips purple and his skin freezing cold, his hands are nothing but bones, he wears a long robe that covers most of his body, and always carries a scythe.

Duties: He guides the sould of the dead to Kindracarn (the realm of the dead)

Current plans: Deihn is neutral and indifferent to all mortal or immortal conflicts, he does what he is supposed to do and nothing more, unless a great need arises (nothing short of the coming of Rao)

Immortal Weapon: Soul Taker, the scythe he carries.

There are many positions in the Council of Immortals who are left unclaimed until someone worthy of occupying it appears. Positions like "Keeper of Magic", "Guardian of the gates of Heaven", and others.

On a last note, the conflicts between immortals are usually silent games of intrigue and obtaining influence and followers on the enemy's plane, and rarely ever become all out wars like it did when Ordwyn slayed Arkus. As a matter of fact, if Ordwyn's ordeal would have gone further, the Minor forces or the Ancient Ones would have stopped him. And remember that the Ancient Ones hold the final decision on everything, if they speak, the council obeys.
