Description

Numish is 34 years old, but his long beard and the white lines in his hair (That's his hair colour) may make him look older. His hair and beard are long and black, with two white lines to the sides that run all across his head and beard. His eyes are grey and usually dreamy.

He wears a long black robe with grey lines in the sleeves and neck, with a strange symbol sewn in gold thread over the part that covers his heart. He is always grasping an iron sceptre, featureless except for an black iron ball in one of its ends.

He usually does not carry anything else, preferring to keep all valuables in his Garlo's secret chest.

History

Numish is a wizard from another dimension, one that is radically different from the one the PCs live in, far weirder and more advanced. In his home dimension, he was a scholar and an apprentice of a powerful wizard, who treated him more like a servant than like a pupil.

One day, in his master's tower and after finishing the day's work, he was walking to his room to rest when he saw the open door to his master's laboratory. He peeked inside and discovered his master was not inside, and, being naturally inquisitive and a little ambitious, he went inside and searched for his master's spellbook. Finding it, he opened the last page and found a powerful spell, he really didn't understand much of it, but considering his master was more interested in him polishing the tower than teaching him magic, he decided to give it a try.

He took his master's favourite sceptre and started to chant the powerful incantation and... well, he messed up. After a bright flash, he, the sceptre and the spellbook were standing in the middle of a strange forest god knows where.

Numish took the spellbook and walked for hours, finding nothing familiar. After a while he came across an elven caravan, he got close to ask for help and directions when he froze in place when he saw their pointed ears. Thinking them to be monsters or demons, he ran away.

Trying to find a way back home, he read the spellbook again and again, but was unable to comprehend most of it, impatient, he hit the ground with the sceptre and *poof*, he was teleported away. When he looked around, he saw a bunch of wide-eyed and heavily armed strangers, "oops" he said.

Any guesses on what adventuring party he had just come across??

Roleplaying Numish

The first time he appears before the party, he is very wary and keeps his distance, especially if there are any elves, half-elves or dwarfs with the party (he has never seen any before). He will probably question the PCs about where the heck is he, who are the pointed-eared things, why are they wearing armour, what are they doing there and stuff like that, remember that Numish' dimension is truly different from the campaign world.

It would be best if the PCs were currently involved in some heroic deed of sorts

After the party has answered his questions, he has finally figured out what happened; he is trapped in one of the numerous books of his master's laboratory, most probably a fairy tale. Having deduced this, he knows he has to side with the heroes of the story (the PCs) to go all the way to the end of the book, and he is sure that by doing this he will return home.

He is absolutely certain of this (probably lost a marble or two along the way), and behaves accordingly. Being a scholar and a researcher, he first tries to accommodate all PCs into stereotypes of knightly tales ("Yes, don't you see?, you are the honourable knight out to cleanse the evil of the world" he says, pointing to a paladin, "and you must be the embittered warrior with some dark secret" he continues, pointing to a warrior, and so forth and so on). He is especially excited if the party is going after an evil wizard ("I knew it, and I bet he kidnapped a princess and wants to marry her... What do you mean no??, don't you read books or what?) or fighting an evil warlord ("Don't tell me anything else, I bet he overtaxes the population and holds the land in a grip of iron, it matters not, I am sure there must be some long lost artifact that you are after to defeat him, right?).

Although he can be exasperating at times, he's still a powerful wizard who is ready to side with the party no matter what. Despite the fact that he's a little delusional, he's still very clever and witty, and uses his magic in the best way possible.

Finally, Numish comes and goes a lot, he never stays with the party for too long, partly because he wishes to explore the land, and partly because he never gets the hang of that @#~$% teleporting sceptre that keeps teleporting him whenever it pleases.
