House Hunting
We're house hunting in a sellers market.
I'm cheap, ...er frugal. I really want my investment in a home
to yield a return greater than I can get in the market or the
banks... ha ha ha, banks, give me a break!
We've lived in apartments while renting, then we "bought" (read, mortgaged) a
condo. I've become spoiled by the low maintenance requirements of such living.
And by the pool, hot tub, clubhouse, parks, landscape, etc.
My wife wants a house with a yard and presumably the whole ensemble of
honey-dos that accompanies it. I don't.
So, why this site? Well, the web is a great place to solicit input from
distant relatives and not-relatives. I plan to use this page to assemble notes
from my house hunting search. If you've got information that might be useful
to my home hunting, PLEASE SEND IT TO ME! I can be reached by email,
here.
If you are in a similar predicament, perhaps the information that assembles
here will be useful to your search as well. Best wishes and enjoy!
05/17/05 - Update
We've been entertaining a planned community named Day Break in South Jordan, Utah.
My dad suggests that now may be a risky time to buy there because builders are flooding the market
with so-called starter homes (I'm not sure what exactly differentiates a starter home from
a not-starter home) and charging a premium for them. This may well yield to
a glut of starter homes on the market all for sale at the same time, meaning if we buy
now and want to sell during that time that we'll have a hell of a time differentiating
ourselves from the rest of the gaggle, and thus may be required to sell at a compromise
in order to compete. He has considerable experience with real-estate and home buying so
I tend to trust his input (plus, he's my dad!) I'd love input from anyone on this topic.
