The Crosley was a sub-compact car that was built from 1939 until 1952. The problem was that in the USA it was the era of "Bigger is Better". From 1939 to 1942 it came with a 2-cylinder air-cooled engine.

The Crosley was quite in demand during WW2 when gasoline was rationed. Only a few gallons per week
was allowed. Most cars were put out of use, but not Crosley. |

After WWII the 1946 models were introduced. From '46 to'48 models were known as the "Roundside". In 1949 the body was squared off for a more modern look. The post war models came with an OHC 4-cylinder engine. Although being the lowest priced car in the US it introduced a few "firsts". In '47 they introduced an all-steel wagon. In '49 4-wheel disk brakes were standard. In 1949 they introduced the first mass produced sport cars. The Hot Shot, and the Super Sport.
