Here is something about the King Louis XVI.

Soon after Louis XVI gained control of the throne, the country of France became heavy taxes on the lower classes. He decided to employ the help of three statesmen who opposed the taxes on the poor and suggested that there be heavier taxes on the nobles. The King paid no attention to this and kept right on with what he was doing.

In 1778 King Louis was forced to have the first meeting of the Estates-General in 175 years. Once in session the Estates-General assumed power of the government.

On July 14th, 1789 the Parisian populace razed the Bastille and a short time later the royal family was imprisoned in the palace of Toiletries. In 1791 the royal family attempted to flee Austria but were caught and brought back to Paris. Louis then swore allegiance to the new French Constitution. Louis secretly worked against the revolution and plotted intrigues with French enemies. In 1792 the National Convention declared France a Republic and Louis a traitor.
