Welcome to CGBobio's Replay TV modification site

Below you will find my solution to mounting a second drive in a Replay 3060 unit.
I have included a template for those of you that are interested in making your own
bracket as well as images of my installation of 2 Maxtor 80GB drives.
(My new total recording time is shown in the graphic above)

Parts Needed:

1 - 8"x7" piece of metal (thick enough to be strong, but able to bend)
1 - IDE Ribbon Cable (with connectors for at least 2 drives)
1 - Y-type Power cable (to split the power to 2 drives)
2 - Nuts (to fit the screws already in the front of the Replay)
2 - Screws (to fit the 2 mounting holes located on the right side of the Replay)
Assorted washers/spacers and bits of foam tape or rubber

Step 1: The Template
    NOTE: screw holes
    may vary depending
    on hard drive used

By using a single piece of metal,
transfer the template onto a piece
that is 8"x7". Drill out all the holes
making sure that they match the
hard drive you are using. You
might want to try lining up your
drive with the template 1st to be
sure of proper mounting hole
alignment.

Step 2: Fabricating
    The Bracket

Here is a bracket I made from the
template for a Maxtor 80GB drive.
Please note that I needed to add
a small V shaped notch where the
bracket mounts to the Replay in
order to avoid the screwhead from
one of the Unit's rubber feet. Test
fit yours to make sure you do the
same.

Step 3: Removing the
    Replay Hard Drives

Once the original drive has been
removed and backed up, remount
the new drive in it's place and
attach the 2nd drive to the bracket.
The screw holes will allow you to
put 2 screws in the side of the new
drive and 2 screws in the bottom.

Step 4: Install The 2nd
   Replay Hard Drive
   In The Replay Unit

You will need to get 2 nuts to fit the
screws already in the Replay as
well as 2 screws that fit the holes
on the right side of the unit. You
might even consider putting a little
piece of foam tape/rubber or
what ever under the bracket so it
doesn't rattle while the drive is
spinning.

Step 5: Reconnect All
    The Cables

This is where you will need to use
a 2 drive IDE ribbon cable as well
as a Y-type power cable adapter
to connect everything again.

Step 6: Put The Case
    Back On The Unit

You are done! Close the unit and
try out your new setup!

I hope this method works for you, I know I prefer it much more than using the
2nd half of the original drive's sound proofing or only supporting the drive
on one side with a zip drive mounting bracket. You might also like to drill extra
holes for ventilation into the bracket. You will notice that the Replay gets much
warmer now with the second drive installed. I am working on putting a muffin fan
in my unit for extra cooling. I'd love to see other solutions so please post them
in the forum section at http://rtvpatch.sourceforge.net/

Good luck!
