Introduction
The little Mermaid wished to grow legs and feet so she could walk on land and learn about humans.  Your wish to become a fish has come true!!  You now have gills and can breath underwater and learn about marine life.



The Task
Dive into the depths of research to discover information about a marine creature.  Swim among the inhabitants of the mysterious world below.  Write a report  answering specific questions (listed in Process) about your marine animal.  Include a glossary of terms at the end of your report.  Share your knowledge with classmates by presenting a brief oral report.  Creat a visual of your sea creature.

The Process
To begin your journey .....

1. Select a marine creature below

  • sea turtles
  • octopus
  • walrus
  • manatee
2. Select  resources (listed in the Resource section) pertaining to your animal and take notes on index cards answering the following questons.
  • What does your animal look like?
  • Where does your animal live?
  • What does your animal eat and how does it get its food?
  • What enemies does your animal have and how does it protect itself?
  • What are three interesting facts about your animal?
3. Write a report on your animal.  Include an introductory sentence to your report.  Create a topic sentence for each area of research and develop a paragraph. 

4. At the conclusion of your report, include a list of vocabluary words (if necessary) to explain information about your creature.

5. Share your findings with the class by presenting a brief oral report.  Do not read your written report.  Instead, use your note cards to talk with fellow students about your animal.

6. Using your imagination, create a visual display of your creature.  Perhpas a poster, clay model, paper mache or other ideas.
